How long does it take to catch a sickness bug?

So my youngest son was sick last Friday on and off from 4am until midday. He was fine after that. My mum who had been looking after him started vomiting on Monday morning, it again lasted half a day. We last saw her on Sunday.
My eldest woke up about an hour ago throwing up. Is this is the same bug? I thought we’d manage to escape it 😩

If it’s norovirus I think up to 2 days, but that’s not necessarily from directly being with the person- ie they could pick the virus up from around the house as it can life for a while outside the body

Something like norovirus can live for days or longer on surfaces I believe and is incredibly easy to transmit. I read somewhere you only need a tiny amount of virus to catch it.

Thanks everyone he hasn’t been sick for a few hours so I’m hoping he’s over the worst of it. I’ve given everywhere a good scrub and crossing my fingers that I escape it 😬

Hi after some advice myself & my Daughter had norovirus around 6 weeks ago she was clear a good 48 hrs or so before returning to school etc Last week she unfortunately caught another sickness bug again but this time it came from her dads house (they have all had it) due to her half sibling catching it from nursery and so I made her stay there until she was clear 48 hrs before returning to me as I did not want to catch it and couldn’t afford more time of work! Tho made sure she showered & cleaned the minute she came back to me as I don’t want it returning in my home! My question is she is due to go to her dads Tuesday & again this weekend but I’m worried about sending her in case she picks it up again is this possible? Unfortunately her dad & his wife aren’t the cleanest of people 🤦‍♀️where as I am the opposite and meticulous/OCD with cleaning especially when it comes to germs! My daughter says she wants to go but she and I are a bit worried that she will catch it again any advice would be appreciated
