As the title suggests really...

Whether it is simple self-care tips, or the deeper heavier tit. How do you look after yourself?

For context, I always seem to have some kind of relationship going on. I really want to focus on number 1 and figure myself out. The thing is, I don't always know how to just look after myself and rely on myself.

What sort of things do you do?

I have done weight training my whole adult life-makes one feel strong and creates a toned body. Excellent for mental health too. I really recommend it. We are currently in lockdown so I am doing Youtube sessions.

Yoga, I found it incredible beneficial for my mental health and as a bonus it also keeps you fit 😊

One of the other things I enjoy is taking the dogs for a walk

But if your question is a general how can I be more independant and less reliant on a relationship then I can’t really help. I’ve always been super independant in terms of not “needing” anybody. I am happy to spend time by myself doing my own thing.

As boring as it sounds, working out really is the best thing. Mainly cycling and weight lifting (for me). Taking that hour to myself where I do something to get the blood pumping. Headphones in and no other distractions.

Also treating myself to something once a month. If I want something, I buy it (within reason as I’m trying to also save like a mad woman).

Little self care things I do:

•paint my nails - try to do this every week
•facemasks
•bubble baths with bath salts
•scented candles and oil diffusers - lavender and chamomile to help with anxiety
•practise mindfulness & relaxation
•avoid alcohol as much as possible
•multivitamins!
•eat my 5 a day
•get outside for half an hour a day
•take time for hobbies such as horse riding, art & photography, makeup
•colouring in the evenings as it doesn’t take much brainpower and something about it is relaxing
•keep my home clean & tidy - a messy home stresses me out
•try to cut down on social media time
•try to get as much sleep as possible

For my mental and emotional wellbeing - the best thing I ever did was to get therapy and deal with my issues (thanks lockdown 😅).
Now I'm in a much better mental space, the things I do to look after myself include:
- beauty treatments (massage, nails, hair)
- meditate, yoga
- have a long bath
- read a book

But I think the thing that's made the most difference is I've become more selfish with my time. I no longer give every person in my life access to me. I take whole weekends and spend them by myself when I feel drained, or just need to think things through. From having therapy I've learnt to set boundaries with friends and family and removed all the unhealthy relationships in my life.
