It’s been tit and I’m not going to sugarcoat it.
Yes there are people out there who’ve had it worse, and I feel for them deeply, but that doesn’t mean that I have to pretend it’s been all sunshine and rainbows when it hasn’t. Mentally, it’s been a total mindfuck; a drain. The fact that you can’t do what you like on a whim, the loss of freedom, living in fear of passing the virus on to others, it’s completely changed everything. I avoided people even when restrictions were lifted in summer because of the scaremongering and fear that the media have drummed into us the entire year. My big concern is that when I’m able to live life freely again, I won’t want to. I wasn’t the most sociable creature prior to Covid, I also worry about it’s effect on my young children who have more than enough struggles in life as is.
It’s also been physically exhausting. Working in a care home during the March lockdown was horrendous; we were like sitting ducks and by the time we were provided with appropriate PPE and allowed to wear masks, the damage was done. It was no wonder I ended up catching it. I didn’t stand a chance and neither did my colleagues or the people in our care who sadly passed away. I hate that my life revolves around work and home with nothing to look forward to, and I realise I feel so negatively just now because it’s Winter -it’s cold, it’s miserable and I’m utterly spent from a year of non-stop “Covid.”
There is no escaping it.
