Houses prices

Are they expected to drop?

The prices increased significantly last year. We have just sold and looking for our next home but we are trapped in a sellers market and the prices are ridiculous. Will they ever drop or are they going to continue to rise?!

I keep thinking they have to drop soon but it doesn’t seem to be happening! My FIL is trying to buy, he’s been looking for 9 months, cash buyer no chain as his sold quickly last year, but every house he has liked has become a bidding war, it’s crazy

If the pandemic has taught us anything, the housing market is incredibly resilient. I wouldn’t expect any kind of crash.

A lot depends on the end of the furlough scheme etc. A lot of companies will make more people redundant then so house prices could be impacted. We will know more by autumn, a lot anticipate for it to be hit in October but, it’s best to hold out and buy next year if possible.

We bought in 2017, everyone told us to wait as it was going to ‘crash soon’ and it never did.

With businesses moving to flexitime, people can move out of towns and buy somewhere cheaper and commute back in for a few days a week, housing in outer towns and villages is probably not going to crash.

As the economy opens back up, I don’t see there being a crash. It would have. Already happened with peopling losing jobs so unless there is a mass redundancy after furlough and lots of repossessions I don’t think we’ll see much if any movement.

We had to leave our hometown to be able to afford a place, best thing we ever did.

I expect two bedroom properties will struggle to sell at some point, especially if people are going to be working from home, they want a spare room and an office. A lot of couples who would normally go for a three bed may now go for a four bed so one room is an office. It’s going to be a strange time for the housing market. Houses are selling at first viewing at the moment - no one wants to pay stamp duty for the sake of missing out by a few weeks
