House extension

We are looking at extending our house. We currently live in a three bedroom mid terrace. We want to extend the kitchen out into the garden to make a family room and then a loft conversion to make another bedroom. We just don't know where to start though or what first steps we need to do.

Has anyone extended their house and can offer advice?

There's quite a lot you can do without the need to apply for permission. How about talking to your councils planning department?

If it starts needing architects to get planning permission it will get pricey, if not then should be cool.
Im hoping because it's single storey we wk y need anything too complex. My neighbours are happy with what we have suggested, we get on well with them thankfully.

I didn't know they had one (totally new to this) but I'll start there thank you 😊

We’re in the process of getting an extension on our house, my advice would be get quotes from lots of different builders before you decide. We got a reasonably priced one, one we spoke to quoted us 80k more!

I just read on bbc news that as of September building up 1/2 stories will come under permitted development! So you might not need planning permission for that.. I think a single storey extension can also come under permitted development if it’s within a certain size, so worth a look!
