I've been invited to a horse racing event. Vip box etc etc but AFAIK horse racing is cruel? Can anyone fill me in please?
It's a mandatory event so gonna be fun for me to refuse
Horse racing is quite a big industry and employs many people as there are apparently races on most days. I think some of the high profile races, like the Grand National have difficult courses which mean the horses often get injured.
I know someone who owns a racehorse with his mates ( which I think is more of sponsorship than him having any responsibility for the animal) and he says they are well looked after and have a retirement once their racing days are over.
However, some people consider using animals as entertainment to be cruel in itself.
Compelling video footage filmed by Animal Aid shows that so-called ‘welfare’ rules have been ignored at one of the UK’s biggest abattoirs – enough is enough

A lot of animal charities also have information on this stuff
