Unfortunately, we still don’t have a clear plan regarding surgery.
I know that will be difficult for many of you to hear, and believe me, it is even harder for us to live with.
Harley’s surgeon had pre-planned conferences immediately following our visit to Italy. Sadly, Harley’s stay and the extensive testing he required took longer than expected. This meant there simply wasn’t enough time before those conferences for the specialists to sit down together and properly discuss a surgical plan for him.
And with Harley, this is not a straightforward case.
His spine is incredibly complex. Harley has scoliosis, lordosis and kyphosis, fused vertebrae, and a spine that twists around like a tree. His situation cannot be compared to a typical scoliosis case, and any surgery has to be planned with an extraordinary level of care and consideration.
We are talking about our son’s spine, his future and, ultimately, his life.
The safest possible plan for Harley requires lengthy discussions between the MDT, surgeons and consultants from multiple specialist fields. Every possibility has to be considered. Every risk has to be weighed. Every decision matters.
We also learned something during this process that we simply weren’t aware of beforehand.
Like many medical facilities in Italy, the hospital operates with reduced staffing during the summer months. August is particularly affected, with many doctors taking annual leave because of the extreme heat. This reduced staffing period continues into early September and, unfortunately, this has caused further delays in the discussions surrounding Harley’s care.
We know people are waiting for answers.
We are waiting too.
And I cannot put into words how incredibly difficult that is.
As parents, you want to be able to fix things for your child. You want answers. You want a date. You want a plan. You want to know that someone is going to make them better.
Instead, we are left waiting, worrying and wondering what the future holds for our little boy.
So please, we are asking you from the bottom of our hearts — be patient with us.
And please, do not listen to Chinese whispers, rumours or lies from people who do not know Harley, do not know his medical history and have absolutely no idea what it is like to be the parents of a medically complex and disabled child.
They have not sat where we have sat.
They have not watched their child go through what Harley has gone through.
They do not have access to the medical evidence, the conversations with specialists or the information that we have.
They do not know our son. They do not know our reality.
When we started this journey, we never could have imagined the amount of hate, cruelty and negativity that would be directed towards our family.
We never imagined that people would spread lies about our son or question the decisions we have made as his parents.
We are still actively working with the police because a small number of individuals continue to spread lies and hate about our family.
None of this is something we ever wanted.
But we made the decisions we have made for one reason and one reason only:
Harley.
We made them because we need to save our son.
Every appointment.
Every test.
Every sleepless night.
Every mile travelled.
Every difficult conversation.
Every tear.
Every sacrifice.
We have done it all for him.
And we will continue to fight for him for as long as we possibly can.
We have come such a long way, and we have done everything within our power to get Harley the specialist help he so desperately needs.
We have also shared our journey through well-known media outlets who have seen the medical evidence and understand the seriousness and complexity of Harley’s condition.
We have nothing to hide.
Our focus has always been, and will always be, our son.
To every single person who has stood beside us — those who have shared our posts, checked in on us, donated, sent messages, prayed for Harley, cried with us, encouraged us, defended us and simply reminded us that we are not alone…

You will never truly understand what your kindness means to our family during the darkest and most frightening moments of our lives.
While some people choose to spread negativity, there are thousands of you who have chosen compassion.
And we will forever be grateful for that.
For now, all we can do is wait for the specialists to come together, carefully consider Harley’s case and decide on the safest possible way forward for our beautiful boy.
Please keep him in your thoughts.
Please keep praying for him.
Please pray for the doctors and specialists who are trying to find the right answer for him.
And please pray that, after everything he has already endured, Harley finally gets the chance he deserves.
We are exhausted.
We are frightened.
We are anxious.
But we are still fighting.
And we will never stop fighting for our son.
