Even for her master's degree?
Yeah! So, my boyfriend pays like 6% of his monthly income for his MSc. I pay 9% for my BM BCh. It's low (compared to the US) and no one really pays it back at all. And no major consequences if you're not chipping away at it, as my American friends report

Deleted my last post because I realised you can get a loan for a masters degree but it won’t necessarily cover the full amount (I think). I seem to remember Holly mentioning somewhere that she was funding it herself at the time of completing it though? Maybe an old YouTube video or something….

I can only speak to my bf's experience, but it covered his tuition and there was nothing left for maintenance. I think that's the general experience!

It honestly wouldn't surprise me, and fair enough to her if that is the case!

Yeah I've got a degree and a masters, both of which I got loans for which I'm still paying off (a minimal amount each month). For the masters the loan was for the tuition and none for maintenance - I worked part time on top of studying and lived with my mum to keep outgoings minimal. No chance I'm ever paying that lot off 🤣

I remember Vee Kativhu who was another studytuber bragged about being able to pay off her Harvard degree with cash she made from being an influencer, so I imagine Holly has probably been able to whack some chunks off her loan, at least.

Did she really take out a loan for her masters?

I had savings so paid mine up front, and it's always been something I've been pleased with - that I never had any debt from it.

It would seem to me, if she was at home, and had income from YouTube, she'd better pay up front.

I know student debt is a graduate tax, but it's nicer if you can clear the tax by not adding to it more than needs be. I was lucky two years ago to get a small lump sum following a family death and I actually had gotten my student debt small enough I was able to pay it off in one go.
unless you are going to be an extremely high earner this is a very poor decision

It still does impact affordability for mortgages etc.

Indeed! But we just treat it like another tax. It's not on our credit files, it just means we can borrow less for a mortgage if we ever believe that we could afford a house.

On another note, how dull are Holly and Angelo if we've resorted to discussing the student loan system

Speaking of the money, I would be so curious about how they are actually funding their travels. I'm just curious about how much money they would make through social media. Especially as their couple's channel doesn't really get any views, and Holly's views have been rather low since her university vlogs. I know that Angelo worked in corporate and Holly had her part-time job working for Ali Abdaal, but I do wonder how they do fund/maintain their lifestyle

They've passed the monetisation threshold it would seem, as all of their videos are ad-ridden. I can't imagine the CPM on their ad revenue is huge, though. I also can't imagine their outputs were extreme before quitting their jobs - there's only so many blocks of tofu you can buy, after all

They’ve obviously been reading here as they didn’t tell us that they quit their jobs in their latest video. Hi Holly!

Did anyone see their homemade "energy drink"? They bought a bag of sugar and mixed some of it into water. This horror may be why they have not branched into lunch...

I felt sick watching them describe it…

I mean, if you're going to shop at Waitrose everyday, why not just spend the £2.50 on a bottle of Powerade?

They're both walking eating disorders. God forbid you drink an actual energy drink. The "chemicals!"
