Who would hire a coach who has no PT training or qualification? If I went to my local gym and she gave this spiel I wouldn't hire her
I wouldn't either. What's that got to do with the YouTube comment posted above that I was replying to someone about, though?

I think comparing Hyrox to being an Olympic level athlete is incredibly disingenuous. "Elite at their sport" when the sport is a fad for influencers which will inevitably die out in a few years. They've hit the nail on the head that there is no long-term vision here. They're not training to be coaches or getting other qualifications. When they're in their 30s, they're both going to be pretty unemployable in their current state.
I agree with you about the lack of long-term vision, but I don't think it's "disingenuous" to compare Hyrox to Olympic sports?

"Olympic sports" encompasses hundreds of different activities, from breakdancing to figure skating to sprinting, weightlifting, luge... A sport is a sport and Hyrox is very clearly something that has particular rules and its own judges/ umpires to measure who is the best at it in a fair way.

I agree Hyrox is very faddy but I think you've missed my point - my critique of that person's YouTube comment centred on their bizarre use of the phrase "pro-social". As someone else said, arguably most careers, or sporting/ artistic endeavours, are not "pro-social". It's strange to hold Holly to a standard of needing to be altruistic in her career choices, when this generally isn't what society expects of people.

I think they are training to be coaches. Holly's linkedin used to have something like aspiring hyrox coach as the headline and even now it hints at that as the goal. Personally, I would not accept training from someone like Holly even if she were to podium at worlds because she doesn't have any qualifications in nutrition or exercise science/kinesiology and she has a history of making poor decisions for her own health

Nothing new, but: This sole focus on her getting her period back drives me nuuuts. Sure one (or two) biologically markers indicating malnutrition have changed. Good for you. But your whole behavior and mindset is still disordered as hell. Get help, for ducks sake!

Her being on UK time is making her insta stories hit different lol. Whaddayamean you spent your whole day yesterday running round a track in the pouring rain and doing a total of 6 workouts while I was glued to meetings watching that same rain fall over the same city 😂😂 It's actually just hitting me now how nuts it is, going to the gym is fully the beginning middle and end of every day for her. Over and over again for months.

even professional athletes do not train everyday, and when they do, they don't train all day long. a few, well spent hours, are truly better than locking in the gym for the whole day doing a total of 6 different workouts!!!

She'll probably knacker her joints and cause an muscular injury if she overdoes it. This is the exercise equivalent of anorexia.
Rest days are important.

I'm pretty sure if you weren't spending £15 on overpriced salads every lunchtime and actually meal prepping and cooking for yourself, the amount you spend on food would decrease dramatically.

Angelo's V02 max being 54 is hilarious. Couldn't stop laughing at the reveal. What are they playing at!

It does really look like she quit her job so she could be at the gym all day. The Insta story post about how being focused on one thing is how to live life...but that's a massive luxury. Most people have to work or child care alongside whatever self-development or alternative career goal they have in mind. That is just not what real life is like.

Also who tf wants to focus their entire life around just one thing. It screams "devoid of personality". She must be so boring to talk to.

Genuinely don’t think Holly has developed executive functioning to allow her to do more than 1 thing properly at once. It reeks of burnout to be honest- not in the physical sense but in the mental sense.

genuinely think she’s at her capacity with being in a relationship taking up a lot of her mental headspace now. She can obsessively be with her boyfriend all the time while doing one other thing. She’s replaced academia with Angelo in my opinion. She isn’t realistically capable of balancing Angelo, sport/health, a job, and a social life all at once. Idk whether it’s due to her sheltered upbringing and the fact her parents seemed to dictate her entire calendar growing up, but it’s sure interesting to observe.

wonder if Holly was given some proper independence in terms of managing her own routine from 16+ if she would have kept it all up. When she went to uni she was running on empty, her external structure collapsed and she was all consumed by academia and food/health. Now it’s Angelo and… shocking… food/health.

I can’t really imagine her talking about anything other than fitness, training, and vegan food

Did Holly give off the idea that her parents managed her life? Imo Holly has always been given too much independence and that is why she is the way that she is. She has had ed since she was a teenager. I don't understand why her parents didn't require that she at least try therapy. Additionally, her parents have enabled the lifestyle she's had post college. They could've kicked her out a long time ago. I remember when Holly went back for her masters and she was complaining about her dad playing his instrument and even told him to stop. Im pretty sure being a musician is his job. How else are the bills supposed to be paid?

Thing is if they have a kid I can see Holly micromanaging their child to fixate one one thing as well. We used to assume her mum pushed dance and disordered eating on Holly and her sister, and I can definitely see that happening with Holly one day.
It's hyperfixation on one thing. When she travelled abroad for the first time we were like wow well done but she ultimately defaults to her ED and exercise in the main.

Also love how in Hollys video it’s all about what a great measure Vo2 max is, but suddenly when his is worse that hers, it’s all relative and actually it’s better that it isn’t too high

This is what makes me so uncomfortable about their relationship, she's always trying to make him seem better and put herself down

As memory serves, her father used to play in the orchestra for West End musicals and her mother was a dancer in them, and that is where they met. When they decided to get married they wanted something more stable for him, so he became a music teacher. The mother also had a career change - not sure if she also switched to education.

I believe the father plays the trombone. Possibly the trumpet? Definitely some sort of loud brass instrument.

In all the years that they have lived in that large house I would have thought they would have made a soundproof rehearsal room somewhere in its spaces. Especially if they lived there when the children were young and if the father needed to practise his instrument as part of his job!

It shocks me that the parents did such creative jobs as they don't come across as artistic types
