Holidays #5 2025 onwards

I booked the DIY trip to Tokyo, compared to the package deal I saw, we'll have over £3k each to pay for flights and hotels. So, it seemed a no-brainer to book it ourselves. Plus, we can have 4 or 5 nights in Tokyo instead of 3 and 2 or 3 in Seoul instead of none :) As an extra bonus, I realised I'd misread the itinerary dates, and we have 2 overnights in Shanghai and not 1. We missed Shanghai twice on previous trips, so I'm thrilled with that development.

I'm supposed to be preparing for our upcoming Panama Canal and Alaska trip but got distracted :ROFLMAO:

This isn't a holiday question, but more a question regarding cabin crew. Do any of you know how long cabin crew get to spend in the country they travel to? It varies when i google it. It seems that 24 hours is common for medium length travel, such as to the Caribbean or USA.
It's completely airline dependent. Some will only do 3 flights a week so a layover could be up to a few days, if daily flights, it will just be an overnight.

Hope it's fine to jump in this, been quoted what seems a good price for Afandou in Rhodes Greece, at the blue sea holiday village, have never been out to Greece before so no idea what it's like

Trying to see anything on yt about it but everything seems to focus on the old town which I think is around a hour bus ride from where we'd be, so we are trying to find out what's around close by aside from the beach

If anyone's been I'd love to hear what it's like
Afandou is quite well located in that it's quite central so about half an hour to the old town and half an hour to Lindos so you aren't having to do a huge slog to get there. There's not a whole lot around it so you will have to hire a car, catch a bus or go on excursions to see the sights which is a downside but driving is lovely there. The roads are good and not at all busy and it's an island where there's lots of cool little places to visit. I can give you more detail if you have specific questions.

Any thoughts with what is currently happening in ME on a family holiday to Turkey in June? Thanks

Sit tight and wait, basically. I read an article yesterday on your rights and what to do if you've holiday plans. If you've anything booked and it's months away, just wait was the general advice. If you've booked a package holiday, don't attempt to cancel or do anything. If there's no FCDO advice to not visit that country, you'll not be covered by your insurance to cancel.
A lot can change in a short space of time and it's down to the tour operator or airlines to make the call. It's unsettling but unless they recommend an alternative at this time, it's wait and hope things settle down.

We’re booked to go Egypt (Sharm) next month, if that plane is going then I will be on it!

We were due to go to Qatar on 31.03. Hoping to get a full refund from QA (apparently they’re dragging their heels on this more than Emirates). Worst case we’ll loose about £100 per ticket if we cancel ourselves. Decided even if travel is allowed, this isn’t going to end soon and Qatar is in the thick of it. We’re going to Sicily instead.

I’m also going next month, I’m a little bit worried if I’m honest but it’s reassuring to read your post.

I'm glad I saved money and booked worse flights now. Instead of going through the middle east my flights go via Singapore so hopefully I can still go. Not for a few months yet so hopefully it'll all have stopped 🤞

Has anyone been to Tallinn? Thinking of booking a trip for late November for husbands birthday.

Just back from New York for our anniversary and wow, what a place! Loved every second just walking about and exploring.

We stayed in the Moxy hotel in Times Square, great location and the rooftop bar had stunning views of the Empire State. We did central park, a sunset river cruise down the Hudson past Liberty Island, under the brooklyn bridge etc and we did the 9/11 Museum/One World observatory. Surreal. The rest of the time we just spent exploring. Can't wait to go back already!

The next trip is in a few months to Niyama in the Maldives - Hoping it can go ahead but like others have mentioned, everything could change so quickly so just taking it as it comes.

My problem is I just want to be on holiday all the time. and I love reading through holiday threads and seeing where other people are away to in the world

I messed up booking my transfer for my holiday booked it for this month instead of next month. Changed it then realised I gave them the wrong date again 🤦‍♀️ Now my plans have changed, I'm going to stay at a different hotel so I'll have to contact them again but I'll give it a few weeks first 😆 luckily the new hotel is only a few minutes drive away

We are off on a river cruise on the Danube on Monday. We booked it the day before I had a stroke in December so I was worried we wouldn't get to go. Fortunately I managed to get decent insurance and I'm feeling pretty much back to normal so we're good to go. I'm just a bit worried I might not be able to stop myself from overdoing it as I'm used to cramming lots in! We're doing Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava, Linz (day trip to Salzburg) and Durnstein. (Budapest and Vienna are overnight stays) Can't wait!

That sounds amazing. What a perfect time of year to go, too. Enjoy it!

Any suggestions for a self catering family friendly beachy holiday in Europe where you don't need a car? We are trying to price up a holiday for the 4 of us for May half term, kids aged 2 and 5. Really want to do this for under £2k.... Don't feel like it's possible any longer 😭

Peniche, Portugal about an hour from Lisbon and you can get a bus directly there if you don’t want to hire a car. One of the best holidays I ever had. It’s a very small place but the food is good and cheap and everything is walkable.

Just wondering what you'd do in this situation. I'm paranoid about my luggage getting delayed. I have two short layovers so I keep thinking it'll get stuck somewhere. When I get to my final destination I am staying in the airport terminal hotel overnight (arrive 7pm, leave 7am) then I'm flying internally somewhere else. Do you think I should change my internal flight to one later in the day? I just don't want to waste time at the airport if my luggage is fine. I am going to take a small hand luggage bag with essentials and a few days clothes just incase.
I read they have to deliver you luggage to you in this situation but would they do that if I'm getting another flight after
