Blimey that is insane. I don't think I could cope with that. You'd probably have got over the jet lag by the time you get to the airport to go home...

I think for four days I'd be willing to go up to 5/6 hours flight time - providing the flight times were good so you could actually enjoy most of that time there rather than two of the days basically just being travel days.

New York I have done a few times for 4 nights, not too bad to be honest, in fact we will probably go again next year..

Probably depends on time difference too, not just flight time. Going to e.g. south africa it's usually same or similar time zone so while flight time is ages it's better than going far east or west i guess.

I've now discovered the 4 day Australia trip is worse than I thought, he's going to watch the cricket!

Although, in fairness, he'll also be visiting his son. 4 days though

Imo that makes it better 🤣 least he is going for an event and probably one of the most important series of games in cricket. I mean I still think it's crazy and would never do it but at least it's for something specific that doesn't happen too often/is important in the game and not just a holiday

We were recently discussing how far people had or were willing (me) to travel for short breaks.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have a winner - my friend is just off to Brisbane, for 4 days 😳

That's just nuts! Although probably not the most insane thing said friend has ever done :ROFLMAO:
Friend of mine went for a week - she’s coming home today. Big cricket fan!

Oh I've found my people!

Our 2025 holidays have been skiing in France in February, Vietnam for 2 weeks at Easter (flew into HCMC, flew out of Hanoi and did Mekong Delta, Hoi An, Da Nang, and Ha Long Bay in-between. Happy to answer any questions as I saw upthread someone has booked), 2 nights in Ghent in July, a week at a French Center Parcs in August, and heading to Andorra for Christmas (skiing).

2026 already booked is France skiing at Easter, and two weeks in Brazil in August. Likely to have a short break in February and I'm already eyeing Italy for Christmas next year (skiing in the Dolomites).

Has anyone gone through passport control with the new EES system? Does it take ages?
I have an hour connection soon in Zurich and I’m so nervous about it 😩😩
Apparently airlines aren’t responsible if you miss connections due to passport control

Yes went through in the Canaries last week. My passport wouldn’t scan in the machine so they sent me to the booth where a man took my photos and fingerprints. Took about four minutes in total.

We have just booked a river cruise for April, on the Danube. Starting and ending in Budapest and taking in Vienna (overnight) Bratislava, Linz and Durnstein. Really looking forward to it as we are usually ocean cruisers but fancied something different.

Ooh I think my parents are on that at the mo! The itinerary sounds the same.
My dad is 80 with mobility issues and was up doing the conga last night apparently so sounds like you’ll have a great time!

It didn't work for me in Spain (Alicante) because people kept walking past when it was trying to take the photo. So they sent me to a desk where the guy just stamped my passport and let me through anyway.

Budapest is a fabulous city.
Let us know how your cruise goes. We're ocean cruisers but have looked at a few river cruises and MrLily mentioned one again yesterday. We've done a Nile one but I'm not sure that's comparable to a European river cruise.

Looking at booking Budapest for a weekend in February, just hope it’s not too grey and depressing at that time of year! Was meant to be going to Copenhagen on Friday but cancelling as dogs not been well so looking at Budapest as a replacement trip!

We went in February this year and the weather was gorgeous, cold but sunny and dry so great for sightseeing. We did an evening river cruise in a covered boat as it would have been too cold otherwise. We stayed at the Mercury city centre which was a great location.

I can't recall exactly when we went but it was Easter. We had cold but sunny weather. And, I'm another vote for the evening river cruise. Sipping champagne and watching the city sail by was lovely and it was inexpensive. Everything was. You'll save lots of money going to Budapest instead. The beer was about .50p instead of the £10 it would cost in Copenhagen!
We did the hop on hop off bus for the few days we were there, I can recommend that too.
I hope your dog feels better soon.

Has anyone got recommendations for travel insurance if your waiting for a hospital referral?
I can wait till as I want to get a yearly cover closer to the time I travel. I'm hoping by then I'd have been seen by the hospital. I'm tempted to just cancel my referral anyway but unsure if that would affect insurance if they see in my history I cancelled it. It's a long standing issue and I think I've learnt how to manage it, I just didn't go to the doctor's for years about it, I did mention it years ago to a doctor and she wasn't bothered. Mentioned it again this year and the doctor did a few tests all were fine so he asked me if I still wanted to be referred and I said might as well just to make sure and so I wouldn't have to restart the process but not I wish I just said doesn't matter

We're with StaySure, they had no issue when MrLily was waiting on a referral. Obviously, it depends on the reason. Somethings may require specialist cover.

It's probably just IBS but I just wanted the referral to make sure all my bloods and other tests at the GP were normal so they weren't really bothered about referring anyway. Did it increase the price a lot?
