So, I shall be getting an inheritance in the next couple of months and I’d really like to spend it on a holiday of a lifetime for me, my other half and our 3 kids (one teen, 2 still at primary). Anyone have any ideas of where might be good to go? My kids have never been on a plane, so I think they are most excited about that bit at the moment 😂

Orlando would be my first suggestion, especially as you have children too. Or Dubai would also be an incredible one. Or what about Australia if you’ve got quite a large amount? You could stop off in Singapore and then do Australia!

Second vote for Orlando. I first went at the age of 20 and still had the time of my life! Although make sure the primary children are tall enough for most of the rides (or wait it out a few years so they are)

Another one I want to do is Mauritius. It’s not just a beach holiday like you would think. There are water sports, horse riding along the beach, walking with lions, swimming with dolphins, mountains to climb, the list goes on!

Or a safari?? That would be a once in a lifetime trip too!

Aw, well I hope wherever you decide you have a lovely time! How exciting for the kids. I personally would love to go somewhere like Barbados or St Lucia (not sure how fun that would be for children though)

Thankyou for your replies! I love the idea of Australia - if it was just me and my partner that would be my first choice, I just worry that the flight might be too long for the kids. Orlando is looking like a firm favourite though 😊

Don't people usually stop off in Hong Kong or Singapore for Australia? I've not been myself but friends have. Both Orlando and Australia sound great. I've been to Barbados and I think kids would be bored apart from great beaches there's not much to do. Its also unbelievably expensive so if anyone goes there you need to be going all inclusive otherwise you wont be able to afford to eat. I kid you not, there's one price for locals and another for tourists.

Doing a stop off on the way there and on the way back would be a good way to help the flight times. :)

Orlando is amazing though, if you did Disney, I would wholly recommend staying on site in a Disney hotel, it doesn’t have to be one of the higher priced ones, any will be perfect, it’s an amazing experience staying on site. Plus it makes everything so easy.

Orlando definitely if you want it an action packed holiday. It’s a trip of a life time if that’s your sort of holiday.
When we went when I was younger we did two weeks doing all the theme parks in Orlando and then we had a week in St Petes to relax and have fun round the pool. We went to Bush gardens whilst we were at St Petes but I heard it’s quite run down now.

Orlando without hesitation! It’s my fave place in the entire world! Best place in the world for kids and parents alike!

It's strange to see people planning something, trips, travel because here you can only dream about it. I really hope things will be better this year, and we want to fly to Dubai to relax, swim, not think about anything. It's going to be great.

Barbados is the most over rated place I’ve ever been. I just don’t see the fascination with it. Yes the beach’s are nice, but there are much better beaches around the world. It’s so expensive when you’re there and there’s really not a lot to do.

Jamaica has been by far our best holiday, and we’ve had a few.
There is as little or as much to do as you want.
Don’t be put off by the scaremongering that it isn’t safe. We weren’t concerned once. Yes, obviously you don’t want to be walking the streets in the dark, but I wouldn’t do that at home either.

I would pick New Zealand over Australia to do with kids, personally. Or both of you fancy!!

And I wouldn’t worry about the long flights. We were supposed to go via Singapore to NZ earlier this year with our (then) 6, 4.5 and 1.5yr old.

Ah really? I had a look for next year and Barbados is mega expensive so it’s good to hear your opinion as I don’t actually know anyone who’s been I just thought it looked nice! I would love to do Jamaica or at Lucia!

As an alternative to Orlando and the usual tourists haunts, I could recommend Cape Town here in South Africa. Great beaches, monuments, landmarks etc. Although probably not aimed directly at keeping kids entertained. Still a fascinating place, and not at all bogged down by millions of tourists

I should have mentioned above but we loved Switzerland as a family. Not as exotic as some suggestions but so beautiful and fab for kids, loads to do.
