Have you ever proved anyone wrong?

I remember when I first started driving lessons at 17 the instructor told my dad I would never pass my test.
I did pass my test at 24 after a few years of no lessons and a few different instructors an expired theory test and three driving tests but I did prove him wrong! I have now been driving for nearly 9 years and used to drive past my old instructor!
Has someone ever said you can’t or won’t succeed in doing something and you have proved them wrong?

I have a few, mostly around school - exams and things like that. Was also told I’d never be a good driver and I like to think I am now

At one point I was in a very bad place, my dad thought I'd end up like my uncle (his brother, drug addict, doesn't work, etc). I'd fallen into the wrong crowd and was struggling with, at the time, undiagnosed mental health issues. However, since my diagnosis I've managed to turn my life around entirely. At uni, good job, happy and healthy, and stable mental health.

He now says how proud he is that I turned things around. I really proved him wrong.

People at work used to think I was a soft touch. I stood up for myself and someone rescted badly to that and became abusive towards me so I went straight to my boss about them. They got fired. I guess people didn't think I was a soft touch after that.

My stuck up ex and his family said I’d never be able to afford a certain car I wanted without financing it (he had just got mummy and daddy to buy his outright). I took great pleasure pulling up next to him at traffic lights not long after we split up in said car which I own outright.

My mum always thinks I can’t do xyz so I prove her wrong every single time. Well I used to, I stopped mentioning anything and make sure she knows nothing.

When I was applying for graduate jobs, I got rejected from one graduate training scheme assessment centre with feedback that essentially said “lower your expectations, you’re not good enough for this”

I received that feedback on the way to an assessment centre at a rival company. I got the job. I’m now pretty senior... their loss

I got old by my a level English teacher not to apply for a certain uni because there would be no way I’d get in , and no way I’d get a grade higher than a C in English

well I didn’t listen , applied to that uni , got an offer and made my grades with an A in English

graduated with a first four years later !!

I left school with nothing due to being bullied and not going to school. The attendance officers said I’d get no where.

I’m now in my 2nd year of my PhD research after graduating with a 2.1 degree in politics & sociology.

I started a really difficult course last year and after a few months, I was struggling and told my friends from home. One of them responded “I told people you would have dropped out by now”. I was furious

Over a year and a half later I’m still here, going into my third year soon

'you won't last five minutes' said by a friend when I told her I had decided to go travelling and work abroad for a year and then 'see you next week then lol' on the day I left.
I met up with her when I returned 14 months later

My old teacher who was also my head of year. He was absolutely bleeping awful, i really do think he enjoyed being so nasty to us. He used to constantly belittle and embarrass us. He was basically a bully.

He told me in very blunt terms that i wouldnt do anything with my life, i was destined to be pregnant by 18, he didnt think i would pass any of my GCSE's, and i would end up on benefits.

Well imagine my glee and excitment when 18 years on little old me with my BA and MA degrees rocked up to my old school for a meeting (i am a child protection social worker), and i had to challenge said teacher. I really did enjoy challenging him as i was so scared of him back in the day. The nasty bleep was all nice to me, pretended to take an interest in me and my life. I was very professional but yeah i did enjoy challenging him.

My family haven’t always been the most supportive. When I went to university I always got told I’d not do anything with my degree and it was pointless and a waste of money. So I stuck at it and landed myself the job I wanted to get.
Unfortunately my first workplace was pretty toxic. My manager was one of those who couldn’t stand it if you picked something up quicker or were better using the software than them so they’d always tell me I’d never manage to learn to program and do analysis at the same time. That I couldn’t say no to things or have a group of work friends or build complex things on my own. They thought I’d fail when I moved to London. I think the thing that pushed me was wanting to prove them wrong. Fast forward to now and I can happily say that I still work in London and achieved everything I said I would.

My standard grade (similar to GCSE level in England) chemistry teacher said I would never be able to do the subject for Highers (similar to A level/AS level) - did it and got a B.

Was the only girl in my physics higher class and the teacher (a man ) expected me to fail - got an A.

I had my first baby at 19 with a guy I'd been dating a few months. He was in a tit job, I had just dropped out of college and was homeless. We had no money and duck all behind us.

Everyone in my family told me I'd end up a single mum on benefits living in a council flat because I'd ducked up my chance at an education and no man would ever want me.

Anyway 25 years later, we are now married with another child, our own home and we both work in good jobs and it really pisses my family off that we managed to make it work.

My horrible history teacher said the same thing to me. I'd loved history all through primary school, all through secondary and then I got stuck with her. She sneered at me as she told me I'd be 'lucky to scrape a bare pass'. I got an A.

I went to college on an evening course to redo my maths GCSE. I hadn't done maths in 10 years, the tutor at college said to me after my first lesson 'your going to really struggle'
I got the highest grade in that class in the end

My year of school leavers were the first to do NVQ's, my dad kicked off about me doing them as nobody had heard of them, and years to come they'll be a useless qualification. 32 years later they are still going strong, plus other NVQ's that I have added over the years. Oh yeah......My dad had to do NVQ's for his job eventually.
