I choked on a long stringy bit of bean today and honestly thought I was going to die.

I was having lunch with a friend who took a call while we were eating; I tried to get her attention by banging the table but she thought I was joking (despite my face turning bright red). Thank goodness for a man who was sitting nearby, who could see what was unfolding and gave me an almighty whack on the back. I was so grateful to him (bought him lunch). Those milliseconds were some of the most scary I've ever experienced.

I've never had what I would call a near death experience but I experienced a lightening strike on a flight from beijing. We were twenty minutes from heathrow and the captain announced there was a shower cloud ahead. I thought why does he need to tell us that. About ten minutes later the loudest BANG!! and a blue flash. I honestly thought it was a bomb or we hit something or something hit us. He came on after and said its not dangerous as planes can take a lightening strike without causing damage. Well why the fug didn't you say that before or at least let us know we might be struck. To me it felt like I was about to die for that minute or so until he did the second announcement.

The choking incident must have been terrifying for you!!!
Its one of my many fears for me and my family. I cut my kids food up still even tho they can about manage it. I fear for my husband too as he shovels great big hunks of meat in his gob 🙄.
I've even watched you tube tutorials on the heimlich maneuver about fifty times. I think everyone should know how to do it.

In 2011 I skidded on ice In my car straight into oncoming traffic. Just before impact my car spun and went side on so was hit on the passenger side. I braced myself to die that day. Never been so scared and still to this day I think what if the car didn’t spin and I took the impact ? The crash knocked me unconscious and I came round to my car smoking and police, ambulance and fire engines. Never drove in cold weather again to this day.

I have seizures and 3 years ago I was working in a cafe. It was sooooo hot and I felt really ill so was told to go get some fresh air. I went out of the cafe and to where the bins are, which is above the cafe. Behind the bins was a very steep set of stone stairs. I fell down them having a seizure and smashed my head on the floor. I woke up in the back of an ambulance 😬 with a very sore head

When I had my first child I lost a lot of blood . The midwife encouraged me to get up to go to the bathroom at some point after. I remember it looked like everything turned green and it was like being in a tunnel, and my everything sounded funny . Then I think I passed out . But I could see the room .
I thought I was dying then . That's what I imagine it feels like

When I was about 10 I was swimming on holiday went under this bridgebut the water was too deep and I couldn’t manage. Remember going under just trying to swim out of it, I saw my mum shouting at the side of the the pool but couldn’t hear anything. Next thing I know my sister pulled me out and I was a pale blue and almost at the bottoms of the pool appariently. Spent the next 10 years telling people I couldn’t swim it terrified me. Will never go back to jersey again haha

when I was 15 went fossil hunting with my day to Lyme Regis. There has been a landslide, there was quick sand. He told me not to go that way, didn’t listen thought I could jump it. Got stuck and he disappeared so rung my mum at home and panicked her 🙈 whoops! A Little girl and her dad were there and she was asking her dad to help me and he said he couldn’t. My dad then turned up, he was sensible and had walked round the safe bit, by then I was up to my thighs and he yanked me out. Lost my wellies.

Neither exactly near death but they’ve always stayed with me and I remember regularly and I do wonder what if.

not my own experience but one of my friends at uni told me that when he was about 7 or 8 he was hit by a car and put into an induced coma. he remembers dreaming a lot during the coma and seeing the same old man several times. apparently he was blocking the way for him, preventing him from going into a sort of tunnel/light/all the cliche stuff. when he finally woke up, he kept explaining this to his parents and describing this old man to them. they then showed him a photograph of his grandfather, who had died and they'd never met before. of course - it was him. always found this fascinating and sort of beautiful in a way. my friend is healthy and happy today btw :)

When my mum was in labour with my sister she said that she was using the gas and air when she felt as though she rose up and out of her body and was watching what was going on from above. It really freaked her out!

On my way back from work there’s a super twisty bit of road, where often on coming traffic come across the central line instead of hugging the corner.

I was coming towards them, so I hugged the left hand side to allow for them to come across the centre line, my back wheel caught some wet mud and ice, and we swung into on coming traffic. I could see a car coming and I though that was literally it but some how we didn’t and I managed to swing back into outside of the road somehow.

My MIL passed near 2 years ago, and inseeee she was watching down that day. I can’t see how we didn’t hit absolutely anything. I was so shaken up. The irony that I said to my husband days before I swore one day I’d have a crash there.
