It's obviously a money thing, she's previously said that because her sex education content isn't advertiser friendly it doesn't make much ad sense £ from youtube and I don't think the podcast has ever made money so can understand why she's stopping that. Also since having a baby and posting about that I bet her More Hannah content has shot up in value, I've heard other creators say that their adsense has sky rocketed after making mother/baby content.
So she can probably do less work, churn out less content and still make the same £ if not more.
Also I don't believe she was ever super passionate about her vanilla sex education work she just thought it was her niche.

I think she's getting at that in the long blog post, tbh I can't say I blame her, having a kid is expensive and those videos obviously take a lot of time and effort to make with not so much reward.
Respect to her for stating all the publicly instead of just fading out the content and ignoring why when asked like a lot of other vloggers across different topics do when kids come along.

I think she's doing the right thing for all the right reasons. I haven't watched her sex and relationship stuff for a really long time- I don't really want to watch this sort of thing from a creator who generally has no lived experience of what she's talking about and no formal qualifications in the field. I do think that she has lots to say on other topics that people will really enjoy. I think it says it all (and Hannah realises this too) that she just hasn't wanted to do any further study in the field of sex and relationships- the interest went a long time ago.

The financial burden of a lot of what she's doing makes no sense and it follows that she would want to simplify her work, especially when she has a small child. I really appreciate her being open and straightforward about the content changes- so many people just disappear into the ether.

I think this is the best way for her to go, she definitely lost my viewership on the sex ed stuff recently and I'm way more interested in her vlog content.

I don't know if I was imagining this but didn't she say she was doing a course to do with sex ed before the baby came? I can't really remember the timeline but maybe she quit when the baby was here?

It will be interesting to see how it will effect her patreons though. With her 1060 patreons right now at a bare minimum of £3/m that's like 3k - no idea if patreon take any fees etc,

Yeah honestly, I think her move into sex ed content was pretty smart at the time- I feel like she identified the right moment to stop depending completely on personal lifestyle type content. It's like she made an actual career out of youtube- now she can say she has experience making educational content, producing a podcast, managing employees, etc. With youtubers who just post about themselves I always wonder how they could possibly spend 20 more years doing just that. It would stress me out to never develop any expertise or more skills.

But it also always felt weird that she wasn't really pursuing many ways to get more education on this topic, or develop herself professionally as a sex educator. That was always such an elephant in the room with her content- that she was basically a youtuber who just declared herself an expert about a topic. I think it's good she acknowledged that she doesn't want to go any further with this, because you could kind of tell. Plus it seems like she again picked the right time to switch up her content.

I did find it kind of weird though that she said in her video that she did the "sexuality educator" course partly because of imposter syndrome- I think recognizing that you need to be educated in order to teach about a certain topic is not at all some kind of imposter syndrome/self esteem issue? That's just true.

Thinking about it a bit more I do think she must really have been running out of money. The thing that made me think this was the rebrand - I wonder if that was like a last ditch effort to get views back to where they used to be? Spent all that time and money on it for very little usage (for example I think only 1 series of the podcast with the new branding). Wonder if her hand was forced a bit.

Like others have said I've pretty much given up on watching her sex ed content and I don't feel she's bringing much to the table, especially when the voices that need elevating are not those of monogamous women living a very "traditional" vanilla life!

She didn't have any experience of all the sex stuff she was talking about? I genuinely always assumed she was very into casual sex, swinging, kinky stuff etc. earlier in her 20s and that's why she got into being an educator? That's shocking.

Anyway...I guess she knows the financials and numbers better than anyone but interesting because to me who only occasionally watched her videos she was "the sex ed YouTuber" and "the girl with a stoma". So we will see how this decision plans out. I guess it makes sense to fade from from a sex person as your child grows up but to me it seems like a slow fade from public life. I never get why YouTubers abandon their main channel as they do this as well it's just asking for trouble.

Also she's looking sooooooooo rough omfg.

Michael Aranda was in a band with Charlie McDonnell back then and also worked closely with the Vlogbrothers. Knowing them was very much a gateway to YouTube stardom

So many of us saying we stopped watching the sex content is very telling. Most of sex ed is talking to teenagers, and her audience aren't teenagers any more. I'm 31, I've had all the wild, irresponsible, responsible, kinky, swinging, etc. etc. I'm likely to have - I don't need educating on it any more. And Hannah isn't appealing to today's teens.

Motherhood, on the other hand, is new territory for me. I still think she could be very successful if she went down the route of child psychology and parenting - with adequate training. But if she doesn't love that either, I get it.

I think this is the perennial problem of the influencer with an unmoving niche - in general, your audience ages with you, you don’t tend to start periodically picking up new waves of 19-year-olds as you go. For some influencers the problem is that their own life and lifestyle is stuck in a rut and barely different from 10 years ago - that’s clearly not the case for Hannah, but the reality is that having sex as an area of fascination and Recreational Special Interest doesn’t generally last the duration of people’s 20s, never mind their 30s.

I also think sex is a deceptively restrictive niche to get into. It’s incredibly politically charged by default which means any progressive-identifying influencer is going to be very boxed in with what they feel they can say, to the extent that it’s all going to be very Instagraphic and prescriptive in a bid to cater to every demographic that might otherwise kick up a stink. It’s also an area that inevitably means that unless you have a very unusual life, a large % of what you say is going to be theory rather than practice or scraped from other sources - and Hannah has in fairness made no secret of the fact that she hasn’t led some insanely adventurous or extreme sexual life, which I don’t think is a particular issue for a sex educator per se but does impose some limitations. Also, the vast majority of people (even ones who are in committed relationships) recognise some degree of discretion is basically a must re relaying info about your sex lite, so that’s another limitation. Also, just… life! At root sex doesn’t change much and most people set into a pattern that involve some iteration of their usual set menu, and that’s not bad - to some extent the stability of society relies on it lol. There’s just limited places you can go with it after a while, so tbh it’s no surprise that after a while basically all online sex experts end up in the same terrain, ie regurgitating twee, politically worked-over iterations of info you could find by spending 15 minutes combing through the Lovehoney website.

That's essentially it tbh. Younger generations (zoomers etc.) don't want to listen to some mother in her thirties telling them about sex and stuff. Not only has she removed herself from the dating and sex pool meaning her opinions and knowledge are outdated now it's definitely not in her interest as well as not being friendly to advertisers.

Her content might have been quite out there back in the day but as you said, you can find it all elsewhere now and she doesn't have much in that sphere to offer.

It must be exhausting to try to keep up with the progressiveness as well. Not to sound totally boomerish "everyone gets offended these days" (because I really don't mean that - it is a good thing to strive for inclusivity) but I think sex ed in particular must be a total minefield. Constantly on the lookout to be inclusive of literally everyone, don't accidentally kinkshame, avoid mentioning any genders, make sure you're never implying something is "normal" etc. Easy to accidentally offend people without intending it and on the internet there's no sense of nuance and you'll get attacked even if it's just an honest mistake

One of her old videos popped up from five years ago and the difference is absolutely staggering - and no, it’s not just that she’s stopped wearing makeup!
She looks haggered and exhausted now, she seems to be up all night with Rowan while Dan sleeps. I don’t know why they haven’t paid for a sleep expert at this point

I agree it’s not just the makeup. Her skin looks awful like she’s not taking care of it at all.

I think they sit on the side of no sleep training parenting. I remember she mentioned implementing a bedtime routine like it was revolutionary and that was quite late after having Rowan

To be fair, that's a comparison of two very different angles, and of course she's experienced a pregnancy, becoming a parent etc. It's normal to have aged in over five years.

I might be behind with her content and missing some context, has she said she's up all night with Rowan while Dan sleeps? Forking out for a sleep consultant definitely isn't for everyone. I'm sure if they felt desperate enough then they'd look into it because they seem to have the money.
