Gladiators #2

They always trot out the “it’s the oldest profession” line as if that makes everything ok. The next line is that it’s “empowering”. Is it? Because it looks like you’re having to do all sorts of things to appease your subscribers. I personally don’t think that changing my body specifically for the male gaze (because it’s not for yourself - those boobs are ridic) is particularly powerful.
I can’t believe he’s gone on good morning Britain to defend his relationship with an adult content star. One of which he has been with such a short amount of time of the back of a divorce which isn’t even finalised. I think BBC have made the correct decision this guy is not reading the room he’s completely missing the point.

Totally agree - in years to come, he will recognise what a total mess he made of his life - sacrificing a marriage and successful career - once the novelty of being with a porn star wears off! Such a cliche of a middle aged man who finds a bit of fame 🙄 wonder what his son thinks about it all!

Not even ex-wife yet, they’re not divorced yet are they?

Ditto. He's hilarious.
Big fans of Legend here too but really surprised Matt does fitness wasn't the first to find that his 'values didn't align'

Watched him on a few podcasts recently (thankfully not with my my eight year old in ear shot) his attitude and language wasn't a surprise really but combined with some of his views my first thought was oh god is that Legend gone ... 'Lazy large kids and the bleeping parents allowing the problem' and 'There's no bleeping excuses move your body no matter what age or health condition just bleeping do something, anything then promoting his own energy drink range clearly off the back of his Gladiator status now we have Giant 'soft launching' his support of adult content creating because he's sleeping with one 🤦🏻‍♀️

For the ladies I would like to see someone who ia comfortable playing a villain role throughout, who doesn't drop character and praise the contestants when they do well.
I think Cyclone fits the bill here. But I agree that it would be fun to introduce another "villain". They're on the whole a bit too gushy for my liking.

Was it the same podcast where he said he’s rather have a thin thick kid that couldn’t read, than a large educated kid? 😬😬 I wondered what Steel made of that podcast , he was a large kid and he now goes around schools teaching healthy habits in a positive fun way

Probably was yeah tbf he says a lot of similar things when he's given the platform and not wearing the lycra "work" uniform.
As I say we do like Legend but its interesting what is and isn't acceptable with the powers that be, maybe controversial opinions are fine but private lives have to be squeaky clean 🤷🏻‍♀️

To be honest I imagine the bbc know how popular legend is and how much viewing figures would drop if they got rid of him.
Gladiators is a massive draw for the bbc and one of the very few (struggling to think of many more) shows they have that appears to kids and adults. Look at what happened with his injury - they still wheeled him out on almost every episode and people lapped it up (me included) whereas all the other gladiators who’ve been injured haven’t had the same treatment.

He was deliberately being provocative with his comments, but i understand where he is coming from after he put up a video explaining in more detail.

A child that is falling behind academically at school will be given help and support to catch up. If a child is very overweight and unhealthy, no support is given to then or their family to help change that. That child then grows up with a higher chance of getting certain health issues due to their weight.

I think shows like Gladiators will be inspiring a lot of kids to take up sports or become more active.

There needs to be more done though. Funding local sports clubs and school facilities. Better support and education for parents. But as with all things these days, there is not enough money for this.

Giant...what a GIANT tool he's turned out to be. He's been tagging his OF GF in his stories, you'd have to be daft if you thought that people won't click through and look at her profile. I agree with the decision - presumably he could have kept her quiet and carried on with Gladiators...there's just no need to be so public about your private life.

I agree that SW/OF has become prolific, and I don't agree with it. Agree with what previous posters have said. It's not empowering, it's not some great feat of feminism.

If her social accounts away from OF were family friendly I could see why he would have a problem with his firing, but looking at her IG today you can tell why the BBC would have a problem. He talked about her doing work with dog charities etc. yet the only puppies I see on her socials are the ones wanting to escape in what little clothing she's wearing.

I saw she said a comment like "I go in my car and play with my boobs" 🤮🤮 what bloody men are getting off on that? Meh, maybe I am more of a prude than I thought, but the BBC made the right choice, he was tagging her in posts and you dont have to look far to see her pictures. I dont want to explain that to my child (although they only have supervised access to the internet).

I think Giant will live to regret this. He may get a few reality shows off the back of all of this, but in 5 years time, I think he will be another Z lister and probably on only fans as well.

If he had played it right, he could have had a good few years (barring injury on Glads) and then retired gracefully and a hero to kids.

I also hate this bull that he is loyal to his people. Nope, not buying it, you thought you were bigger than the show and have FAFO.

I think Giant will regret his choices too. Obviously, it is his call, but I just don’t see what he will be able to do outside of Gladiators, aside from maybe a few reality shows. He might as well have cashed the cheques from the TV show, live tours and appearances until Gladiators finishes.

I suspect the show will replace Giant with another…Giant-like Clone. The show has enough big men like Hammer, Bionic, Phantom and Apollo. Someone like what TheStrawberryThief suggested is a great idea with gymnastics or martial arts background.

And on the subject of Matt and his opinions, I get what he is trying to say because it’s true; if a child is struggling academically they by and large will get help, but when it’s physical health or when children are overweight or obese then it’s crickets. However, you just know he’s an arrogant tosser (the bit around his children being able to read by the age of 4, for example) who thinks he’s right on any subject and won’t listen to anyone else’s take. The topic of children and their weight or their academic abilities is far more nuanced then his statements suggest.
