German Elections 2025

German here. It's really not going to be that bad. Merz will hopefully be able to work with the SPD and that's that. He won't even talk to the AfD and all those saying non-white Germans are going to get kicked out are just over exaggerating.
In the future I hope that if someone comes here from any non-eu country and they misbehave / become criminal they get kicked out or put into jail. If they come and work here, then great!
Non-white German here. Thank you for dismissing feelings of people like me after a horrifying election campaign focusing solely on evil migrants, refugees and generally everyone who isn’t German/white enough. If you think that the tone of people like Merz and Weidel isn’t trickling down into society then you can congratulate yourself on the privilege of not having to endure that.
Your choice of using the word „misbehave“ as a reason to kick out people is very telling, I must say. Who defines „misbehavior“ and its consequences? Very different from committing actual crimes for which there are laws.
Congrats on a big election success, I guess. This country’s real problems won’t get tackled in any way or shape of course.

my big worry is that the AFD is now going to be the leader of the opposition, and all other parties (Grüne, Linke) are firmly left. They arent going to do what Merz did and attract right leaning voters (which the party kind of naturally does attract but not that much under Merkel, Merz kind of overdid it in the end and likely lost votes this way), which are just in the majority right now***, so it will be very easy this time for the AFD to gain votes. especially if the CDU has to compromise its program to run together with the SPD.

****having said that personalities still tend to trump that. there is a reason why Merkel kept getting voted. had SPD run Pistorius instead of Scholz I'm willing to bet they'd won the election. Die Link jumped from 3 % to 9 % within weeks just because their leader held a great speech and because one of its oldest members was the only one to call out the AFD on their BS in talkshows

much as I hate Alice Weidel they know exactly what they do by running with her as their leader. she is the least right extremist member of the AFD arguably, so she makes them look more harmless than they are. because much as I think our county is filled with racists I dont think it's 20 % of it (though where I live AFD got less votes than Die Linke (the left), and the greens won, so there is that) that's not my experience. mans got baited on matters they agree with and didnt care to do their research on everything else. plus just are too disappointed to believe anyone else

Yes to what you said about Weidel. I was discussing this with some friends recently. Had they chosen Höcke, I think (hope) less people would have voted for them. Weidel looks harmless plus they can always claim the party is not against all foreigner or against queer people as she's married to a Sri Lankan woman.

Also agree that it was a huge mistake to let Scholz run again.

PS slightly jealous that you live somewhere where Green won. They got about 5% here and Afd got the majority with 30% 🤢

AFD was smart in putting Weidel front: lesbian woman, wife from Sri Lanka, she makes a good picture of "we aren't all that bad". Which is probably correct, she is a lot less extreme than many other people in the party and i frankly think if they had more like her and less of the really extreme ones, they'd have gotten even more votes.
Definitely huge mistake to let Scholz run again, but I'm glad the didn't win it, tbh. Couldn't stand another 4 years of that stupid grin.
Edit: also green won here (Zweitstimme), but the breadth of a hair. More of less unsurprising, we also have a green Bürgermeisterin. Tbh, I'm not a fan.

Lol I get you, not really fond of Scholz either. He’s such a Schlaftablette (is there an English word for that?). I would have prefered him over Merz though. Merz is so power hungry I wouldn’t be surprised if he would sell his soul to the devil (or in this case Afd).

Do you not think Germany needs new leadership though? Things do not seem to be working, if anything it seems to be getting worse?
P.S. I am asking as I’m interested in the opinion, not because I’m trying to argue before anyone comes for me!

Well, the CDU was in power for 16 years so most of the issues we are experiencing currently stem from that time. Also, the Ampel was better than the media made it seem, especially SPD and Green. Lindner tried to boycott everything and have his way, the main mistake the others made was let him get away with too much. Without him, I don’t think there would have been that many issues.
