Everyone’s memories are so sweet and so poignant. ❤
It was so so sad when he died, I still can’t believe he’s gone.

The day before, Last Christmas was playing in a shop and said to my then girlfriend, “George Michael has such a beautiful voice”. Like duh, of course he does 🤪 but you know when you just HEAR it and appreciate it.

Then the news came through pretty late on Xmas day, and I was a bit tipsy and confused, I couldn’t really believe it was true. Liam Gallagher tweeted, “it better not be true about George Michael”, and I thought the same.

Ugh, it‘s so sad, and I can’t even imagine how his family and friends feel. I hope it helps them knowing how loved he was and still is, and that he has such a nice fandom.

-a few memories
As a kid of the 70s and 80s I listened to the top 40 every Sunday afternoon on radio 1/2? Can’t remember. I also collected the smash hits stickers and had the album. I used to buy smash hits and No1 magazine. Loved them both. I wasn’t a huge wham! fan, I was a culture club girl. I remember one morning getting ready for school and Wake me up before you go go was being played on TV AM. I loved it.

Fast forward to 1987, at big school. I asked for the Faith album for Christmas from my mum and dad. I had loved careless whisper as a junior school romantic at the disco 😂. George as a solo artist was a new phenomenon. I played my new Faith CD on Christmas Day and the first song was I want your sex. I could have died from embarrassment as my mum and dad sat listening. I didn’t really like that song. Father figure was the best and most mature track on that album by far in my opinion.

I bought the double CD of ladies and gentlemen and played it so much. I just thought that this man had the most perfect voice and such emotion and heart in each song. Cowboys and Angels 🥰🥰🥰

Christmas 2016 was an emotional one.My dad was in hospital and we had been to see him on Christmas morning. The Salvation Army came and played in the wards which made me cry like a baby. I cooked Xmas lunch for the family after leaving dad in the hospital (which we all didn’t want to do but I think he was happy for the rest after we left). We were playing trivial pursuit at the kitchen table late afternoon when a news notification came up on my phone. George had been found dead on Christmas Day. I couldn’t believe it. It was so unbelievably tragic. I was so sad for him and his family. I’d always loved George and I was gutted for him having been so sad in his final years.

I went to see the George exhibition at Christie’s a few years ago. It was amazingly emotional and very well put together exhibition. I’ve got a few photos and videos of that exhibition if anyone’s interested in seeing it.

RIP George. You were loved so much xxx
Lovely post and would love to see the photos and videos

I’m pleased to share with you all fellow George lovers. It was a really emotional few hours inside the exhibition. I’m so glad I went. I’m going to try to get to the Sotheby’s Freddie exhibit next week. :)

I’m 28 so too young to have been a Wham! or George fan at the time, but my mum is a huge fan and I grew up listening to Wham! and his solo music.

George is probably one of, if not the only, time I’ve been genuinely moved to tears when a celebrity has died. Something about him was just so wonderful and I loved watching the Wham! documentary.

The world is a poorer place without him in it, I hope he and his family knew how loved he was.

@Missmopps what a gorgeous post. 🥰 Cowboys and Angels...love it.

This thread is so lovely. All of us united in our love for George. I watched a yt short earlier today of him being interview by Michael Parkinson R.I.P and the charm and great sense of humour George had was fabulous. What a terrific man, he had it all. ♥

@Sideboard Bob , the very vt I watched.

I had a few Baileys too many and went to bed early. So I didn’t hear till the next morning. My other half woke me and said he had some terrible news. That George was gone. It was so surreal as I just couldn’t take it in. I have and always will be proud to be one of his lovelies. Saw him at Earls Court and it was just amazing. He had such a beautiful soul, fabulous sense of humour and simply some of the best songs ever written. I could wax lyrical about my beloved George all day. I miss him 😔

It's probably because I'm past the blob's visit but this rendition always gets to me every time. Of course this entire Unplugged is immense but just George's take on such a song. Oof.

Has anyone been to the Fastlove - George Michael tribute show ? My daughter got tickets and we're going on 1st October in Southampton.
I usually go to see Rob Lamberti so hoping this show is good.

I'm sure almost everyone on here knows anyway but there's a new George Michael documentary on tonight. Channel 4, 9pm. Probably lots of sleb talking heads but extra George is always a pleasure to see.
