I'm sure almost everyone on here knows anyway but there's a new George Michael documentary on tonight. Channel 4, 9pm. Probably lots of sleb talking heads but extra George is always a pleasure to see.
I didn’t know so thanks for flagging it

Has anyone been to the Fastlove - George Michael tribute show ? My daughter got tickets and we're going on 1st October in Southampton.
I usually go to see Rob Lamberti so hoping this show is good.
I’ve been twice. He’s really good. Sounds very like him but defo doesn’t really like him. It’s a great night out!

Oh George. I know I'm preaching to the choir but God, he is/was such a delightful beautiful man. Not just externally but internally.

Watching this program I knew George was extremely generous but he really was a one off. An absolute diamond.

As I woman of a certain age I can put a Wham / George Michael song to every part of my life
I was absolutely gutted when George died and still am
At least once a week I have a 'Oh George' moment to a song , picture , video of his.
There will never be anyone like him again

He secretly paid for a lot of medical procedures for people which the NHS didn’t cover, such as breast cancer treatment. And never publicised it.

There is a great interview somewhere alongside Morrissey where GM, affable as usual, happened to tell the interviewer that he was a fan of the band Joy Division. They were totally confused as had assumed he just favoured cheesy pop IRL and I suspect Morrissey was put a bit out of joint too as he wanted the monopoly on seriousness.

Eta: here it be

My mum denied me from seeing Wham! when they came to Bournemouth as she was absolutely disgusted with George shoving shuttlecocks down his shorts and not something a young teenager should be seeing!
I was very young when the shuttlecocks down the shorts thing happened, but I can very vividly remember watching TOTP and my Mum abruptly changing channel, looking at my Dad and saying "He's not wearing any pants, that's absolutely disgusting". Me being me (and about five years old and obviously very innocent!), I spent the next half hour going "But how do you KNOW he's not wearing pants, Mum?" and being solidly brushed off.

A few years later, I read about the shuttlecocks in Smash Hits and asked her why on earth anyone would put shuttlecocks down their shorts because I just didn't get it. I was not given an answer.

If W.A.P had come out when I was a kid, my Mum would have locked me in a cupboard. I'd probably still be in the cupboard now, come to think of it.

What a great evening. I have a sore throat and my feet hurt.
And the dubious honour of being the first person to dance in the whole theatre he sang I'm your man as his second song and I can't sit still for that

I am sober as anything and yet my eyes started leaking watching and singing along. Bloody onion chopping ninjas

I bloody adored his Outside and Freeek music era too , and kicking about in the pinstripe suit and the goatee. He was giving no fucks and was filth , we love to see it

Aww yes!!!

I really love Outside. The song and the video are amazing in their own right, but the cultural impact! He’d just been outed and the press clearly wanted him to feel ashamed, and he just went, “no, I’m going to have FUN with this”.

I honestly think that video is one of the most punk rock things to happen in popular music.
