Freezer food

Premake curries, chilli, other types of stews.
Plus frozen fruits, vegetables (I buy a big bag of peppers from Costco and chop them then freeze), chicken breasts, salmon, basa, sometimes steaks.
And we freeze our bagels/bread, tortillas, etc so it lasts.

Oo I love this post!

How do you all freeze/defrost? I try to freeze and use things but it never tastes as nice as fresh so I think I’m doing something wrong?

Ooh I’ve never found this problem before...is it maybe to do with what you’re using as storage? (Just a guess).

I use freezer bags usually! I defrost in the fridge overnight as I don’t have a microwave 😳😂

I have tried batch cooking lots of things but they never taste the same to me once defrosted so have stopped doing it. I am a fussy eater though so that probably doesn’t help.

I have a slow cooker that I found helps me batch cook. I've only made chili and curries with it though.

I tend to buy a lot of chicken i freeze, leave that to defrost and just bang it in the slow cooker to make some sort of meal out of it

I do agree on this. Chicken never tastes the same. But I like to have stuff done so I can take it to work. Not sure how it’ll be with use of staff room and microwave when I return though so may just take a sandwich for now!

When produce or meat is on special offer, I buy extra and I portion and freeze in bags. Ground meats get flattened in ziplock bags to take up less space. We have some frozen ready made items like pierogis or pizzas. When I make chilli or soup, I make in our largest pot but we have a big family so most gets eaten and if there are leftovers, it’s one or two servings for lunch the next day. I do make double batches of lasagna, cottage pie etc and freeze one. Same amount of work, 2 meals. I also make triple or quadruple a cookie dough recipe, portion it into log shapes that can be cut from frozen when we want “fresh” baked cookies. That’s probably my favourite shortcut. 🍪

Same. I dont bother myself for this reason either, my sister usually batch cooks me some food whenever she is at mine just simply because we live hundreds of miles apart and I miss her cooking but it can only be mince based dishes or just the ragus/currys and add the meat/veg myself, a hearty stew can freeze well too I find as long as it ain't left frozen for more than a week or so. Although I agree chicken does not taste the same. Bordering inedible. Anything batch cooked which has the whole freezer burn thing going on, I wont eat it.

I'm loving batch cooking fair enough I make two meals for me and my partner. Before used to just leave it in pan get what you want and whatever left take for lunch at work. But over time we just made pigs 🐖 of ourselves taking too much wasting it. So meals now i portion 4 out two to eat two to cool for freezer. Then week after that's tea again.

I usually buy £3 for 10 from Ocado, most of the time is Salmon and when it arrives, I throw it in the freezer.

I have to remember to take it out the night before so it defroze in the fridge

I don't get home until 7/7.30pm. I don't feel like cooking or waiting too long for food. I freeze spag bol. chilli con carne. Lasagne, cottage Pie. Madras curry. I did use microwave rice sachet which takes a min. I also freeze pasta bake and other pastas. My freezer is full of batch cooking meals. Also some family members prefer different meals. They are all labelled.

I have a little under the counter fridge so the freezer part is tiny. It just has ice cream and sometimes chicken nuggets.

I always keep a family size homemade lasagna in the freezer. I have a special container for it. Its my go to for when there are unexpectedly too many people for dinner, although there's not been much of that lately!

drawer one has oven chips, micro chips, potato waffles, fish fingers, chicken chargrills, chicken dippers, onion rings and battered sausages! - (I mentioned on another thread on Saturdays we always just wing a load of random stuff to the oven and have a little tray of party food as we usually have a drink that night - i promise we don't binge on this all week!)

Second drawer has a fish pie, a box of chicken burgers, a couple of my stepdads home made lasagnes and some home made soup.

Third drawer - One tub of ice - cream, some frozen cocktail mixes, ice cubes and some ice lollies..
