this is so spot on!! For someone who has the gall to tell people to check their white privilege etc, she doesn’t do it herself.

also it bewilders me when influencers like her who have obviously come from money talk about how living by themselves is so liberating but fail to realise that’s not achievable for most of her audience who live in London

Exactly! Don’t get me wrong, I used to LOVE Florence. I even read her book when it came out and finished it soooo quickly but after that, her Instagram began to annoy me. The fact she fucked off on holiday during a pandemic?! Me and my partner cancelled our holiday with our one year old as we just couldn’t risk it - but yet she fucked off whilst knowing not many people can afford that due to job losses etc?! Soooo inconsiderate.

I think this pandemic has / will open a lot of people’s eyes to these influencers flaunting their wealth / success whilst being absolutely fucking oblivious to their followers who see that shit who have to use food banks to feed themselves / families.

I have also never seen her speaking about class issues which is a huge red flag for me and I think people will also start noticing soon. Shes just a posh social justice liberal - no substance

I’ve been saying this stuff on here for a while now but feel that people often leap to her defence. It’s all quite cultish.
She is extremely performative and I find her lack of life experience is a huge issue when she’s telling people how to live their lives. As I’ve said here earlier, my relationship has gone through some major stuff and all this ‘dump him’ is a crock of shit. Life isn’t like that when you have actual real world problems, and your main things to do in a day aren’t to record ‘hilarious content’ for Instagram. I just cannot take to her, I think she’s immature, childish and narcissist... and damn insincere.

Come back when you have issues to navigate through and see if then your mantra is the main thing governing your life??? Like how do people find someone like that helpful??

I remember when I first saw the “dump him” thing and at the time I was in a really awkward place coming to terms with my past relationship. This saying makes it so much easier to self blame and also minimises the amount of pressure in a relationship. You’re 100% right - dump him is a crock of shit.

No because people have really hard times in relationships, people are shitty to eachother. God I know I’ve been shitty to my husband and him to me. We have 3 kids, life can be pretty fucking tough.... you get through times, you have family deaths that put immense pressure on your relationship and illnesses. But floss has got it sorted with her one liners and ‘hilarious’ songs done on her keyboard in her central London flat. Piss off.

For some reason she made me very uncomfortable. I followed for a while but realised it was having a negative impact on my mental health so unfollowed.

In theory I agreed with a lot of her points of view but I felt the way she shouted it at people was not nice. I agree with being passionate about important issues but she seemed completely unable to listen to other people's points of view and find it very difficult to imagine her changing her mind of anything. That was the vibe she gave me.

Also, I just got the vibe that she really played on being very stereotypically thin and pretty. Yeah she is doing the whole modern not shaving thing etc but, like, but she was shouting about body image and such and I just felt like I didn't need to hear from someone like her. I felt that someone who looked different, who was say fat, would not get away with being so objectively in-your-face about things, and unwilling to admit failures.

I couldn't really decide why I didn't like her and felt a bit guilty tbh for not liking her.

I think she has a way of making you feel like you’re doing something wrong if you don’t like her vibe.

Really agree with this. I felt she was dead set on the idea of there being completely right and wrong relationships and that any difficulties we should just leave our relationships. But life isn't like that... men can be pretty shitty and relationships can be pretty hard but this comes from both sides.

I think leaving things as soon as things get a bit tough is very defeatist and even as someone with very left leaning points of view, I think is one trait of our individualistic society that can bring more negatives.

Also she is completely failing to take into account people who need to stay in relationships for practical reasons. Immigrants, people with serious health issues, people with lots of kids and not family support, obviously all these people can leave a relationship and pursue their "freedom" as she would proclaim, but really being able to be that picky about freedom etc really is a luxury.

Yes people should be able to have lives which are as fulfilling as possible, but I think shouting constantly at people just to leave and drop everything is irresponsible and not going to happen and potentially dangerous.

try telling someone who cannot financially cope to ‘dump him’ and as you say with dependents it becomes even more difficult. It just shows that beyond her single and comfortable life she has no idea about the real world.

Why do people suddenly think that other people want to watch them dance around their front room? This is bizarre. Maybe I’m old.

Found her because I’m the raging feminist of my friendship group and so I was bought her book for my birthday. I thought there were some important messages for young women in there, particularly about the pressures of the male gaze. Although she does clearly spend a lot of effort on her appearance. And the artwork is great. But, a very noticeable brushing aside of class issues (wonder why). And parroting some current “woke” opinions that will be horribly outdated in a few years.

I really liked her Instagram to begin with but really gone off her since attempting to read her book - it’s very much “intro to feminism” interspersed with incorrectly (and harmfully!) using the terms abuse and trauma, as well as that “dump him” mantra.

I just felt like I would have found it revolutionary reading at 14 years old, but now I see through it as regurgitation of 2012 tumblr, some useful content but ultimately feel like it’s a vanity project rather than creating real social change. Florence repeatedly “acknowledges” her privilege but as just another pretty, thin, cis, white woman with a large platform - what is she actually doing to promote anyone’s struggle but her own?She posted BLM content while it was trendy but nowadays it’s all just self obsessed self promotion

thank you! This is it. She keeps saying how she’s aware of her privilege but it just feels like she’s just saying it for the sake of it. Her content is probably good in theory when it comes to feminism but actually so shit in practise but she knows it sells.

Winds me up these white privileged influencers use being bisexual to be something “different”. now I’m not saying she or others aren’t bisexual but they play on it to seem more oppressed as it were. I’m bisexual and never really ever speak about it or have to speak about it because it doesn’t affect my life in anyway. Also I don’t want to flaunt it around like a fashion label or use it as an excuse to call myself queer

Has anyone seen theslumflower’s stories regarding Florence’s book? Interesting considering both their books are like Pinterest quotes in book form with pictures but wonder how she will handle it
