(my original comment somehow posted to a different thread?? Anyway here it is)

Aja sticking her nose into other people's business yET AGAIN. The comment about her "looking around her small London flat" is so grossly priviledged. She lives in London. LONDON. and she has the nerve to imply someone else shouldn't have taken a job if they didn't like everything about the contract. Thats not how the real world works. <Most of us can't turn down money like that. What has this got to do with her anyway??? She also posted about cancel culture, what a fucking hypocrite. She orchestrates pile-ons against people every single week.

This whole mess is stupid and it appears to be a lot of fuss about very little.

I'm glad florence is back to posting on instagram and didn't get CANCELLED. She's annoying af but all this fuss was over nothing. seem slike a bunch of hypocrites all sniping at each other for clout. ridiculous that grown women are going after each other like this for what?

Me too. I'm glad she's just carrying on, she must have a good support network around her - or a really good therapist lol.

Now that it's become abundantly clear that Chidera doesn't have any sort of intellectual property case against Florence... I wonder if Florence or Diving Bell will instigate any legal action against Chidera (or, come to think of it, loudbossygross)? Both FG and DB have suffered considerable detriment to their reputations (and damages to their bottom lines, I should imagine) as a result of the false allegations of plagiarism. It could be quite an interesting defamation claim and there's an absolute truckload of evidence.

What do people reckon are the chances that either FG or DB would sue Chidera for libel? I'm 50/50, on the one hand I feel like they would avoid it and just wait for the whole thing to die down so as not to be seen as wielding the law against a Black woman. But also I feel like Diving Bell especially would LOVE to have a judgment proving themselves to be in the right lol. Personally I think a libel case would have a far greater chance of success than an intellectual property claim.

I don't think Florence would bother. It's not worth it for her and would still be bad PR regardless of who's in the 'right', and wrong.

I'm afraid a solicitor or barrister would be the only person qualified to speak on the merits of a claim - but from my layperson's understanding, I'd imagine that Chidera's repeated statements that FG deliberately copied and profited off of her work would be fairly easy to disprove using legal standards of intellectual property violation. If Chidera's claims can be disproved to such a standard then FG/ possibly DB could seek financial damages and/ or an injunction preventing Chidera from continuing to make such claims, as a remedy for the emotional, health-related, reputational and/ or financial (delete as appropriate lol) damage caused by CE's statements.

Defamation is not my area of expertise by a long shot, but my understanding is that libel simply means defamation in written form, as opposed to slander which is verbal defamation.

Ultimately if such a claim arose it would be down to the court to decide whether CE's statements held any truth or whether they were defamatory in nature. But for anyone interested in the specifics of how the law quantifies libel, and the possible defences, this is an interesting read:

This makes me SO angry as someone who actually has to watch my rapist and abuser flourishing online. It's completely debilitating and awful and retraumatising. Fuck her for even thinking this was an appropriate comparison in any fucking way. HOW are people still sycophantically supporting her after this, why is nobody calling this out???? Honestly fuck this woman so hard. She's not suing bc she knows she's in the wrong, so instead she's coming for rape survivors?!?! There's being a straight talker and then there's talking out of your fucking arsehole, and Chidera is 100% doing the latter.

Like hmm, what would I rather see. My rapist living his best life with 0 ramifications for his actions after I spoke out, free in the world to mete out the same horrible abuse on some other poor woman, or someone copying my work (allegedly lmao) and making more money than me, even though I'm still comfortably well off thanks to my own book sales and command an audience of hundreds of thousands online. Tough call, they're so similar!!

Yes they are similar but so are so many authors!!! Chidera is just pissed because Florence sold more copies. If there is genuine plagiarism, which can be detected with computer software, it can be called out. She’s not taking legal action as far as I know. FG is quiet because she’s confident she wrote her book and was inspired by Chidera
