Fed up

Hi guys, is anyone else just feeling totally fed up just now? I feel like I spend 10 hours a day just sitting in my bed scrawling through social media every day as I feel I have nothing else better to do as I'm still on furlough from work. I live in a very small village and we are on lockdown so there is nothing to so outwith my home. I am doing an online language class but it's only 2 evenings per week and I try to do an exercise video a few times a week but both they things don't take up all the spare hours in the day I have. I am not artistic in the slightest so drawing/painting/musical/knitting anything like that I am hopeless at. Also volunteering in my area is not an option.
Is anyone else in the same situation?

I'm on maternity leave and I feel a bit fed up. I made a thread about my complaining about my husband but I think the restrictions aren't helping because there isn't anything to do . I find it harder to take the kids with me if I do go out because of the restrictions and I am always worried about the risk of catching the virus, even though I take precautions and follow guidelines.

I too live in a small village in the Lake District, and like yourself there is little to do other than go for long walks.

Fortunately I have my work (IT) to keep me occupied for most of the day; but even so I always try other practical things that I probably wouldn't have thought about before Covid happened back in March.

So have tried my hand at some DIY, cooking, playing video games, writing blogs, figuring out exactly what I want in life and acting on that; writing emails to friends and family, and generally keeping in touch with people close to me.

I also try to learn something new every day, while trying to keep away from social media.

It's hard, but we're all in the same boat I guess.

yes, completely fed up. this lockdown has been more hard hitting than the first i think.

can't do anything in my area as we are still in tier 3. all i do is travel to and from work and occasionally try and go to the gym if i'm not completely burnt out from a day of doing mundane jobs at work. feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel with all this

There must be something you can do. No need to lie in bed, lying in bed will make you fed up.

Have a routine, go for walks, gym, do some shopping, practice some new recipes etc.

get your coat on and a pair of trainers, put your headphone on and get out for a good long walk. Get some good tunes on, get the body moving, get some fresh air!

I know what you mean, I have been out of work since September and I don’t have much to do during the day really. I don’t like the gym, don’t like walking on my own and I don’t really have the money to go shopping or bake so that rules a lot out.

I have mainly been matched betting to make money, looking for a new job and watching documentaries. That’s about all really. I am a carer for my mum too so that fills a bit of my time.

Thanks everyone for the advice, in the evening I go a walk round the block twice as I say where I live is very small and we can't leave the perimeter of our area so not much walking to be done either unfortunately, no gym or shops in my area either unfortunately 😬
 
I'm fed up too! I'm in Munich atm, living in a small studio apartment with my fiancé, he's working from here but I have very little to do. The usual internet and social media browsing, watching YouTube/Netflix, playing 8 ball pool on my phone. I've read every book in the place, I might order a new one. I go out for walks but just around the local neighbourhood, I know all the streets like the back of my hand now. It's getting pretty tedious. Every day is the same.

Your situation sounds so similar to mine, I'm in a small village in Spain and my boyfriend works from home full time now. Hopefully things will get better soon 🤞

Are there any podcasts or audiobooks you could start to find to take up some time?
You could do things like puzzles, origami or try your hand at painting? Honestly, you don't have to do any of these things and be "good" at them, they are just ways to get creative and take up some time in your day. Perhaps even things like those colouring-in books or colour by numbers may take up an unexpected hour or two. Especially alongside bingeing a podcast or audiobook.

Honestly, and I say this gently, I think staying in bed all day will make you feel worse in the long run! I don't think you need to be good at drawing or painting to try it, it's just a bit of stress relief/boredom busting, isn't it? I['d say you should have a crack at it, it's not as if anyone will crumple it up and laugh at you!
I do sympathise though, if I didn't have university I'd struggle in the same way. Things I found to occupy my time are:

Keeping a diary; writing about any old things in a notebook, as long as I got my head away from the screen
Creating a scrapbook, putting photos of my family/friends/pets/interests in it
Colouring
Playing on my Nintendo Switch
Shopping :LOL: who knew Tesco would be the new big day out?
This one is embarrassing and I can see why people would be averse to this, but I like to record little videos/snippets of myself each day and link it together as a little movie, admittedly this is practise for my movie making module at university though.

As well as, admittedly, a lot of YouTube, Tattle, Netflix.

Is there anything new you'd like to learn/practise/get better at? You say you're taking a language class, is there any way you can supplement that, apps like Duolingo, videos online so you can study/make notes? It's a bit dry yeah, but I find it a big help to engage yourself rather than scrooolllling.. and scroooollling... etc :)

I feel the same way lately but mostly because I feel so unhealthy even though I’ve been trying so hard to lose weight it feels hard because the more I workout the more my joints seem to hurt. My anxiety/health anxiety is also playing up and I keep getting these inner feelings of panic that bad things will happen or that I’ll be abandoned by my boyfriend.

I know a lot of people are feeling like this at the moment. We're living in strange times and it's hard to know what is going to happen next.

If you can, lose yourself in a TV series or movies - I love to look up "Lifetime Movie" on YouTube - there are literally thousands of them to choose from. A lot are a bit naff, but there are some gems in there. That will pass away some of the time; I would also see it as a really good time to work on self-development (and there are heaps of ways of doing that for free online).

Have you got a bicyle? Or could you borrow someone's bike. Cycling is good exercise and it give you a feeling of well being.

Put your phone away.

Get out every day for fresh air. Walk, run, hop, skip, garden.

See if someone needs help with shopping, Gardening etc.

Do some yoga.

Read.

Eat properly
 
My therapist told me about the “hot cross bun” model which I found quite helpful. It basically says that if you change one of the four things (e.g. try to do some deep breathing to reduce anxiety) it in turn impacts the other areas on the chart which overall makes you feel better. (Equally, when you have racing thoughts, it affects your emotions, physical body and behaviour in a negative way.) She said even just getting up and crossing the room is a good enough way to change your physical state and break the cycle. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a run or a walk because sometimes that just feels like too much.

I will also say, while this is useful, I do also think about how nice it must be not to actually need these things 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ Does anyone else ever think that? It’s like yeah great we can all learn how to better manage our thoughts and emotions but wouldn’t it be great just to not need to make this (sometimes huge) effort to avoid feeling tit?!

Podcasts, meditation, yoga, reading, all the classic films you haven’t seen that you must, cleaning, sorting out your wardrobe and selling stuff on Depop, making recipes, writing letters, writing in general, maybe a poem or journaling? I think I am quite a homebody so I don’t know if I’d ever get bored of being at home haha.

Edit volunteering for a phone line maybe? Learning a new skill like HTML coding? Writing a screenplay!
