Ever since my partner died they seem to think they can treat me like dirt and walk all over me but since i started putting my foot down i get ignored by them and also family members. I've asked for help but don't get it so biting my tongue until i can leave and be away from them all
I’m presuming (sorry if wrong) that they were your late partner’s daughters?

In one with the in laws, it was originally set up in the first lockdown for the weekly quiz. They all still do the quiz we stopped doing it in September as my sil is a massive witch and was making it awkward she was also cheating and took the fun out of it. Me and my husband would leave but then we know they would talk about us so we just mute it now. Every week while the quiz is happening and they are chatting the most random stuff gets posted in it about stuff they are obviously chatting about, last week we got a picture of someone's kid that isn't even in the family 😐 it's also a massive fool measuring competition between some people.

I have one with my parents, siblings and our spouses. It’s not over used - pictures of the kids, memes, happy birthday wishes, any interesting info (not much atm!)

What really annoys me is my husband has one with his parents and sister that spouses aren’t “allowed” in. His parents and sister live in other countries so it’s their main form of chat together, and it excludes me and my SILs spouse totally, so we never hear any of the stuff going on. They like having it just the 4 “family” members 🙄. We’ve been married for 10 yrs and I am still not considered family.

What ?? That is ridiculous!!! Do you ever read it?

I know it would get the better of me & I’d look and no doubt me mega disappointed!

Some of these replies are nice, it’s actually a great way as a family to communicate. And if used respectfully & you all get on I can imagine it works fab.
For me though it just doesn’t work-
Ours is in-laws, ( posted at start but basically 4 sisters, mil & my husband no others husbands in the group)
I would say I get well over 50 notifications a day. There is 1 main poster & it’s all about her, her daughter, her life, her work. If anyone else
Posts the others all chat amongst themselves then she wades back in with a picture of her daughter ( for the 2nd time that day) or ‘look what we’ve done today’.
She ignored every pic I put in of my kid so eventually I left, it was a week or so later
& the sister I like added me back to the group. I WILL NOT talk in it. My husband can’t bare is as he is a private person. None of us have Facebook, quite happy just us.

Yes I look almost every day 🤣 my husband doesn’t mind me looking, there are lots of pictures of our nephew on there (who we’ve never been able to meet) and they honestly talk about pretty dull stuff 🙈🙈🙈 but they like it just being them.

My husband has a group chat like that where I haven’t been ‘invited’ I’m not considered family either unless one of them wants me to babysit...

our family chat is me, my husband, my parents, sister and bil. Recently I’ve added my step son too. It’s not overwhelmingly with notifications. My husband doesn’t have a chat with his mum and brother which suits me

We have one with me, my sister, her husband and our parents. It’s spoke in most days with memes, videos and pics of my niece and nephew ☺.
Then a big one which has our cousins and aunties and uncles which was made for the zoom log in details but is occasional chat & memes but my cousin & her husband took the sulk and left it after a family argument so it’s been quieter since then...

I’m in a family one with my mum, stepdad, sister etc but it’s never used.

in another one with my two sisters.

and have another one with my boyfriend and his mum and dad which got set up before we went on holiday, now we just sent pics into it if our cats lol. My boyfriends parents live in London and we live in Ireland so it’s nice to have.

My family have a what's app. I love it. We have very close relationships but all live ages away from each other. It keeps me sane. We facetime most days too.

I have a fb group chat with my SIL and mil too.

Yes, I set up one for my mother and her sister so they could find each other on WhatsApp as they were doing my head in not being able to figure it out. They are both in their 70s and not very tech savvy.

Now I can read all of their conversations and they accidentally video call me because they don’t realize that they can just text and call each other in their own chat 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

we have one of just us in the closest family - my sister, my dad, my mum and myself. we are very active in it because we started it when i moved to a different country and my sister went away to college (these things happened at the same time so they missed us a lot), and then we just got used to using it because i never moved back in with them and my sister is still studying in a different town (even though she lives with them now due to covid). it's quite practical even though 90% of the time it's my mum and dad sending really lame memes while literally sitting next to each other 😂

and then we have a second one for my mom's side of the family. other than my mom and sister, it's my aunt and my cousins. we mainly have it because we are the ones in the family who are obsessed with cats, therefore it's mainly photos of cats and photos of the newest little addition to our family: my eldest cousin's daughter. so she sends pics of her daughter and i send pics of my cat 😂

We love a good family group chat - we have loads!

One with mum and us kids (most used, every single day! Memes, banter, checking in, food orders etc)
One with dad and daughters (here and there, mainly my dad updating us on the weather condition and road closures 😂)
One with mum and all extended family (just banter and hbd's when they come around)
One with my sisters and close cousins (a general gossip/talk chat/usually every day)
The same group as above with rated R without minors (dating life debacles, tinder and all that witchy stuff. Been pretty dry recently)
One with just my cousins in the same city as us (for general meetups, check ins etc)

Honestly, I have SO many! I'm really blessed with the family I have.
But I love them all. I don't join any groups if I don't like the people in them. Uni groups chats used to do my head in omg.

EDIT: Just to add, none of us "kids" are married yet so I'm scared reading some of these comments as I hope our dynamics don't change! I'll happily add anyone to a group if they want to be in it and we're family!

I really enjoy my family WhatsApp! Until recently my brother and I lived quite far away so we’d use it really frequently to send pictures of what we were up to and all kinds of stuff, my dad likes to send us YouTube vids of dogs etc. Somehow my husband’s in it too but he gets on really well with them.

I am not in my husbands’ equivalent group and I’m quite glad about that for now 😬

what annoys me most is that both my parents’ default is iMessage and they think WhatsApp is for group chats only so always end up having two streams of communication with them.
