Fake gf?

Just because he comes from a "good home", doesn't mean he can't cheat. The two are not necessarily interlinked. People cheat for different reasons.
Plenty of people who come from a stable family unit cheat. You know his family, but it doesn't mean you know him on a deep personal level. Additionally, his past relationship is really none of your business whether he cheated or not.

If the rest of the situation does not matter, then I do not see the point in asking the question in the first place because the question without any context does not make a whole lot of sense and is pretty obsolete if you ask me. You provided context, we answered accordingly. If you didn't want any advice, then you should have restricted your original post to this question only instead of adding extra details.

The only time I've heard of anyone making up a fake partner was a girl at college telling us that she had an older bf, she made stories up about dates they went on and drives in his car. She was very insecure, which is why she made the bf up. However, she was 17yrs old, it's definitely more unusual for an adult to be making stuff up.

I'd steer clear of anyone I couldn't trust. You're not even with him and you suspect he's being dodgy.

Also, my brother comes from a good home but he's still a cheating swine

I wonder if he's gay or asexual, or perhaps a virgin? (And yes, I know you mentioned he had an ex).

He might be too afraid to tell you what's really going on.

I've had another thought. I wonder if the girlfriend is married.

Whatever the case, I would avoid him. How would you feel if you were his girlfriend and he was flirting with someone on the side? It wouldn't be a nice feeling. Move on - there are plenty more fish in the sea.
