It's actually quite surprising just how many steps 10,000 is. My husband and I went a walk in the countryside last week and it was almost 7 miles and I had only done 8000 odd steps according to my FitBit.

I run every other day, walk at least 15k steps per day and try and do a HIIT class online each morning. Really missing swimming though as used to do that a lot but not comfortable going just yet even though the pools are open.

Pre-covid, I was going to a Barre studio 4-5 times a week. It was a mixture of HIIT and strength training. It got me in really good shape.
Since Covid, we've set up a gym in the basement. I work out about 5 times a week. Doing a lot of strength and some cardio. I actually think I am stronger than when I was going to the gym.
I use Youtube channels. My favourites are fitness blender, madfit, heather robertson, and caroline girvan. I found I like the videos most where they don't talk and it is just a countdown timer and music.

I walk to work that’s a 45 min walk, I have a manual job I work in a warehouse so do a lot of lifting & carrying, I walk home (up bank) I did the school run twice a day that’s a 2 mile walk as well for the whole school run, can’t afford the gym & just don’t have the time between my kids, granddaughter & needy husband, yet I’m overweight, can’t shift weight at all, I did see a nurse about my lack of weight loss she said because I walk a lot I won’t lose weight as my body is so used to it, came out feeling like utter crap! I’ve been overweight all my adult life so given up now.
So an update on my weight loss, got rid of the needy husband last December, since then I’ve gone from 20st down to just over 13st, eating less & I’ve joined the gym, I only go on the cross trainer, rowing machine & treadmill, I’m so scared to run on the treadmill a combination of bad ankles & feeling embarrassed 😂 but I’m getting there at least, I’m just trying to shift my belly because it just hangs now & it’s awful!

I feel such a lightweight. My daily walk step target is set to 6,000; if I’ve done say 10,000 I’m exhausted!

I’ve been doing the odd Davina dvd workout (45 mins, toning exercises) but more once a week than three times, which would be preferabl.

I *try to* go to the gym on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Some weeks are more successful than others 😂

I was going to create a gym thread but thought I’d just bump this!

I've started the gym again this month and it’s been a major boost for me. The first couple of weeks I was doing lots of classes but I cut those back. The two I went to every week I’ve cancelled on the app for today as I’m getting more confidence with doing stuff other than cardio 😱 I never targeted muscle groups for example, felt too self-conscious doing anything other than cardio.

The classes are only 30 mins (I’d double up depending on the schedule) but there would still be a lot of standing around waiting for the PT to pick a song 😶 and you’d have to get there 15 mins early to one class just to get a space. I’d feel like we did more sets and not enough reps, too.

The point is, has anyone else used the classes and then dropped them once they gained confidence or did you continue them? I feel a bit guilty cancelling them but think I’ve outgrown them already (it’s only a chain gym so they’re nothing amazing) but they were great for giving me confidence and helping with my coordination.

Before lockdown I would go to the gym 4 times a week for a mixture of fitness classes (zumba, LBT, toning/barre) and gym sessions of cross trainer/weights/floor work.

For home workouts I do a lot of Youtube classes from PopSugar Fitness' channel...particularly like the Kit Rich and Jake Dupree workouts for a tough but enjoyable session.

I also do yoga at least once a week, was an in person class prelockdown, which then went to zoom, or Yoga with Adriene youtube practice.

A few yeard ago I would do a lot of HIIT and Davina McCall DVDs. They kept me thinner than I am now but I do now find them a bit high impact and also don't seem to keep me as strong or healthy, which is now more of my priority than being a certain weight.

I also walk as much as possible, about 12,500 steps a day

Why would you feel guilty. If your not enjoying them / feel like you can do better just cancel, it's your money.

I make sure to do 10,000 steps everyday and I also do YouTube workouts by Sydney Cummings 6 days a week. It can be anything from 30-60 minutes of either bootcamp, HIIT or circuit style. Sometimes it’s body weight but most are using weights

Guilty might be the wrong word, may be more pressure just not to zone out in a class and have to plan my workouts. It seems whatever the PT likes working out that’s what the class focused on so quality was hit and miss, but the classes are included in the membership. I wanted to hear how others had approached classes having never done them before.

I had a PT pre COVID and I continued with her via zoom for the whole of 2020 and up until now, which has been great as it’s kept me accountable. She’s now offering a monthly programming option with regular check ins, which I am doing as I have some equipment at home and access to a gym at work and it means I can be more flexible with when I do the workouts.
I like the programming to be done for me as I find that the biggest hurdle - I procrastinate so much over what to do!
Currently doing 2 x Strength workouts for 1 hour each and then a circuits session / HIIT type session and a 5k run.

3 hiit sessions per week, 2 of these are followed by dumbbell strength workout.
2 kettlebell workouts.
On the 2 days I don’t work out, I try and go for a 45 minute walk.

21 Day fix is great, ive done that a few time and there is an extreme version. I have recently discovered HASfit on youtube and i love their workouts so much more tha n21 day fix. I aim to work out at least 5 times a week, I usually do HIIT twice and then upper, lower and a total bodyworkout.

Ah cheers I’ve reset it on my app and it appears to be working right now. Around 5.5 miles is now 10,000 steps for me!

Does anyone have any advice for me and my shin splint? I began running which I’ve now stopped as it’s too painful. I now walk more and have invested in some decent trainers. The pain is still prominent in my left leg though. I’ve been icing and using KT tape and compression sleeves when walking but the pain still lingers.
I found rest to be the best thing to resolve shin splint. Although it could be worth having gait analysis to make sure that your trainers are fully supporting you. Hope you find something that can help x

There is absolutely nothing wrong with walking. Walking a few miles a day is much better than doing nothing at all. Hope you get you motivation back.
Oh yeah I know I try and do 10,000 steps a day anyway - I just mean for me walking alone is never going to replace a heavy workout, in terms of both fitness and mental health.

omg love this!
i’m a personal trainer but i use a peloton bike and the app for running
i train 5-6x a week with a combo of weight training, cardio and crossfit style workouts
i hit my 10k steps daily and stretch and do yoga/pilates on my days off ! :)
anyone considering the peloton, pls invest, it has changed my life

Work out 5-6 times a week. Weight training twice, hit once maybe twice and spinning twice. Also doing between 11-15k steps per day generally.

I work out 5 days a week at home for an hour. I lift weights and do a bit cardio. I walk 45 minutes every morning with my dog too. I love exercise and couldn't be without it. I haven't been in a gym in 3 years as I bought equipment up over the years, kettlebells, dumbells and a barbell. Now I'm working from home it is easier to fit it in, especially on my dinner break. I also use YouTube videos and really like Caroline Girvan, very good videos that are mainly focused around strength training.
