I really want to get into weight lifting, but can’t afford a PT yet. Do you think it’s possible to achieve good results on just the equipment machine things? I just hate the free weights area
Yeah for sure it's possible. Depending on how good your gym is in terms of what machines they have, it's possible to do a really good training plan with just that or supplementing with bodyweight stuff.

Ah fab, it’s great so many are getting back into it. I got really into it pre covid and then stopped over lockdowns etc. Have slowly been building back up and last year I hit my peak but I took a break over Christmas. So now I’m pushing myself harder and really enjoying it. I always stuck with the same weights for too long and it’s crazy how far your body can be pushed sometimes.
anyone follow any good online lifters?

Hope it's OK to revive this thread! I've been strength training at the gym with intention for about 9 weeks now, and I'm loving the results mostly. I have gained weight, not just muscle unfortunately, because I'm so effing hungry these days!

Any protein powder tips? I feel quite bamboozled by all the options and don't feel like I can trust most reviews. I need to get more protein in me though, and a powder seems the easiest way.
I really like the clear whey, I find it much more drinkable than ‘normal’. It makes it a juice more than a shake, if that makes sense?

Is it possible to train at home. I live in a rural area in Greece, no gyms within a 20 mile radius (at least). Also, I’m no spring chicken, although in my younger years I was a regular gym goer.
Yes I would be interested in this.
Any youtube videos that would help?
What weights to buy?

Any runners who lift? What kind of weightlifting program do you follow? I know hamstring and glutes are important to work on for speed, jumps and plyometrics too but I can't find a specific 6 to 12-weeks type of weightlifting program targeting runners.
I'm training for an ironman & currently doing weights to complement the swimming / running / cycling elements. I tend to do 2 gym sessions a week & both of them are full body. For running, single leg movements are good - try step ups, split squats and Romanian deadlifts.

Love this! Been training consistently for 5 years but only last 2 years discovered ‘proper’ lifting. I’m disabled (use mobility aids) and despite gojng to Sam gym for 6 years feel out of place and unwelcome because of this so it’s nice to have a place to chat. I tend to train 6 days a week Sunday full body circuits as I don’t have much time mon pull, Tues lower, wed push, thurs pull Fri lower Saturday off and I do cardio everyday. Sometimes it changes depending on the health conditions I have but that’s what I aim for

I take unflavoured pea protein, it’s the only one that agrees with me, if you know what I mean!

I have one scoop with 400ml almond milk which is low calorie, a banana and a handful of whatever berries I have to hand.

The scoop of protein powder alone gives 24g protein.

Well done on being consistent 💪🏼
