Eczema on eyelid

Just looking for some product recommendations for a bout of eczema that’s come out on my eyelid - it’s red, sore, dry. I’m presuming it’s eczema/dermatitis?

I’ve cleaned my makeup brushes, use Avene skincare (bought the soothing eye cream especially) and nothing is clearing it up. My GP practice aren’t currently doing face to face appointments and I Cba describing it over the phone. So hoping to get something from a pharmacy.

Hi, I'd go to the pharmacy now and they can have a look and recommend something. If it gets worse or doesn't go then I'd be ringing the Drs, eyes are important and you don't want it to swell and then close up or anything.

I bought a small pump bottle of Epaderm cream, some La Roche Posay Cicaplast (it says don’t use around eyes but I’ve used the tiniest bit). Hoping it works or I’ll have to get something prescribed from my GP. Thanks for all your recommendations!

I had this a couple of years ago, never figured out what caused it at the time but as it comes back every now and again I have a suspicion mine may be a side effect of rosacea. I’m looking into a new skin care routine for it at the moment.

I was prescribed hydrocortisone cream at the eye clinic, I would think you can order that from a pharmacy, but you have to be careful as hydrocortisone can thin the skin and your eyelid skin is thin and fragile anyway. I was given a less strong version - just checked the tube and it says 0.5%.

It cleared it up almost overnight. Good luck

I used to get it on both eyelids all around my eyes like an allergic reaction. It would last months and hydrocortisone ointment was the only thing that cleared it up but it thins the skin and isn't supposed to be used on the face. Ask for Protopic 0.1% ointment that worked for me and it doesn't thin the skin.

My partner uses Epaderm, it’s the only thing that works for him. It’s greasy and medical and not fancy but it does work.
His mum use cerave eye cream and that works for her. I’ve just got him la Roche-posay cicaplast Baume to try as reviews widely claim this works too and it’s a handier tube but no reports back as yet.

It’s a specific recognised condition I think, might be worth seeing a doctor if you can get in

My doctor said when it comes to eczema, the thicker and greasier the cream the better it is at clearing it up.

Oh this has been the bane of my life - Hydrocortisone ointment not cream (its like vaseline, the cream stings me to much) and at a push Nivea (the old blue pot)

I've had eczema/dermatitis around my eyes too. Mine was allergic dermatitis - to chemical SPFs.

The pharmacy will not be able to give you steriod cream for your face as the skin is too thin and it could damage it. If you can get your doctor to prescribe that should clear it right up.

I use this on my kids and if does work..it's like lard but it works x

Hydrocortisone is very strong to use on an eyelid - only get if a doc prescribes. I used Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream for little dry patches - it is a life saver if you get a little burn as it stops the skin drying out and splitting. You can use it for all sorts of moisturizing things so not a waste of money.

Try Diprobase. You can get it on Amazon, it's a thick emollient cream.

I’ve had this on and off for years. Definitely worth trying an antihistamine. I kind of just have to put up with mine unless it’s absolutely awful I’ll use a teeny bit of hydrocortisone cream.

You know allergy is probably technically the wrong term as I never got a blood test or anything.

But it was very red and agitated round my eyes (my face was swollen and tight) so process of elimination and cutting out then reintroducing products myself was how I established it.

Have it myself and found certain shampoos make it flare. I don’t touch my face at all because I noticed if I had something on my hands it could also flare.

Always found ointments worked best for mine over creams. I’ve had a few different ones over the years

I've had it on my eyelids for over 20 years on and off so i feel your pain I use epaderm moisturizer, cerave eye cream and take an antihistamine every day.

I had this issue for years and years and after multiple steroid prescriptions that did nothing... I found that no fragrance dry skin Vaseline cream helped, loreal hydra water for dry and sensitive skin and child’s farm were the best for getting rid of it and keeping it away! I know it’s a nightmare having dry eyes, at my worst times I was desperate and was putting lip balm on them for any sort of relief So glad it’s gone away now! Hope this helps

May I ask, how did you find out it was an allergy? Did your GP do allergy testing?

I’ve had exactly the same problem for a few weeks now I have tried everything but it’s such a sensitive area. Only thing that as helped me is this. I use it twice a day.
