Eczema Diet

I have had eczema since I was a baby and I am now 29, I am not as badly affected by it now I only really get it on my eyes, scalp and two fingers.
I know a lot of people say diet helps to keep eczema symptoms at bay and I was wondering what foods do you find have helped or made eczema worse for you?

I am in a similar position as yourself; has eczema all my life. I cut out dairy as I heard that could help however haven’t seen much improvement truth be told. It be interested in what other people have found.

Ive had eczema all my life. Tried lots of different things.

I’m lactose free since becoming intolerant in my mid 20s, cutting that out helped a little but more with bloating, and spots.

I had to cut bread and pasta etc out for the most part to really get a hold of my eczema. I haven’t cut out wheat entirely, for example I’ll use normal stock cubes, normal sauces, as it’s not like I’m fully coeliac. But at home I eat GF pasta, mostly bake using GF flour (unless it’s for someone else and I’ll only eat a small bit) and eat GF bread. when I go out For dinner I splurge on a pizza or proper pasta and I can get away with it, I still have normal naan with an Indian. I basically take a 90/10% approach.

Also cheap booze with sulphites. I used to get really bad flare ups at uni after all the alcopops and cheap rosé! Now I tend to drink spirits and if I have wine only a few glasses.

I've deciced to cut out dairy for a few weeks and see if I notice a difference, I've seen a lot of people say it helped them

I have tried cutting out dairy, gluten, meat, sugary things and alcohol. There was no change at all, unfortunately.

I’ve tried cutting out food groups too before but since I became vegetarian I would say it’s cleared up 50%. I’d say my triggers is stress so it may be the same for you too.

Look into the Autoimmune Protocol. It's an elimination diet that aims to reduce inflammation. Once inflammation is reduced (at least 30 days), you slowly reintroduce foods whilst assessing any reactions.
 
You would need to find what works for you. Remove things from your diet or lifestyle, see if it reduces yours symptoms and then reintroduce to identify any potential causes.
 
My sister has rosacea and eczema. She did a low fodmap diet as recommended by the hospital and it helped but didn't cure it completely. She had to try eliminating certain foods for a week to work out triggers, such as red foods (tomatoes, red meat etc). She did learn her own trigger foods which has helped ease it, such as alcohol, spicy food, caffeine and chocolate. But it hasn't cured it completely. Mine is triggered by stress.
 
Mine was cut out stress, alcohol and drink more water. Also plenty of moisturiser (which ever one you use) and slather it on.
 
You have described me. Scalp and fingers.
Doctors recommend cetreben and epiderm for me but still not helping

I had a weird flare up of pompholyx / dyshidrosis on my hands a few years ago which was hellish, I cut out dairy according to my dermatologist who pretty much suggested it. I’m now vegan but still get general eczema on my body, armpits / arms mainly and currently have some across my bum cheeks 😳😳 I have never managed to pinpoint what causes that as it appears so randomly
 
I have contact dermatitus on my face - I suusally control this with steroid creams whenever I have a flare up or feel the signs of them coming on. Its really odd as I had eczema all my life but it disappeared in my teens and has come back in my early 20's but with completely different areas. I get flare ups only on my face now - on my eyelids, laugh lines and just beneath my nose mainly. The dermatologist says its an allergy but no idea what i'm allergic too! Still on steroid creams and have been a very long time. I've weened myself off it so only using once a week.

Also dont think its food related but maybe something coming in contact with my face everyday but no idea what! We thought dust initially but doctor said it wouldn't be this bad unless I had dust bunnies literally on my bed as I slept which I clearly do not. Then went make up free for 3 weeks in lockdown and stayed away from skincare as well. Only used water to wash my face and my moisturiser but still a flare up and by the end of week 2, I had to put the steroid cream on because I cant stand the feeling of raw skin on my face. They also asked about false nails and mascara as they are big indictors in women who get it eczema on their faces but I very rarely wear acrylics and ruled out mascara too when I went make up free! Any other suggestions would be welcome!

I would be more concerned with my flare ups but because my make up covers them so well, I only really feel conscious when I'm alone make up free! I always thank myself for taking that make up artistry course 7 years ago 🤣

Have you tried cutting out products that have methylisothiazolinone? Alot of shampoos, soaps and handwashes etc have it. I found out I was allergic to it years ago and cut everything out that contained it and it cleared my eczema up big time

I've never heard of it! Just googled my everyday products and its only in my shampoo that I can see - I do normally switch shampoos up dependant on what is on offer lol. Would this make eczema appear on my face rather than my scalp/forehead though? I will find an alternative and see if it makes any change. Need to go through my products again. Thanks for the suggestion!!

I used to get really bad eczema around my mouth and eyes and once I stopped using products that contained that it cleared right up
