You can talk about it here! Where will you be on Wednesday, are you in the UK? It's going to be quite a spectacular sight, around 90% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon.
I'm going to Spain on Monday to see totality (hopefully), as I missed the 1999 eclipse due to the dreadful weather. I've been planning this trip for over 25 years! 😊

I’ve been forced to agree to make an effort to see this by my friends who have a far more positive outlook on life than I do. Tbh the way the UK has been for the past 10 years it wouldn’t surprise me if it did open up a portal to hell. 😂

I hope I get to see something. Any time there is anything cool going on in the sky, it clouds over and I see f all.

Nothing will beat my memory of the total eclipse in 1999. I have rarely felt so awed by nature. The way it felt when it went dark and cold will stay with me forever, it was an amazing experience.

I hot footed it home from work and made a cereal box into an eclipse viewing box, while making a stirfry! The viewer worked well, the sun was really bright but I'm in the North West so just a partial eclipse, it went half dark and the birds were tweeting!

Oh I didn't know I'd started a thread! I asked in support last night! Thank you mods.
I really didn't know until a few days ago an eclipse was happening!
I remember the last the one, felt like we were all counting down the days to it, rushing out to buy special glasses etc!
I'm in Cornwall and apparently it's a good place to experience it, the last one was really eerie, the birds all vanished!

They're always an anti climax IMO.

I do recall a total eclipse and all the birds stopping singing as darkness covered the trembling earth which was kind of "awe-ful" in the purest "old testament" sense. So that one was decent "end of days" stuff.

If a hell portal opened up and demons and a few space aliens appeared and had a massive punch up that would be cool though.

You have to keep a positive mindset in this life IMHO.

Thought I'd ask here as I don't know if there's a thread for it, but there's an eclipse next week, I had no idea!
Not sure where to talk about it?

Some of us will be slumming it without the fancy specs  by means of 'pinhole projectors'*, unless somehow the stack of negatives I used in 1999 suddenly emerge from a dark dusty corner.

* handy portable tube version of which now on standby for when the phone camera burns out...
You don't need fancy specs. I still have fabulous photos of the '99 eclipse that I took from the reflection in a black bucket of water. I'm hoping that we catch a glimpse from Andalucia 🌑

I'm in north east England and it was a bit of a non event, like @Maid22 said not a lot happened. It was a bit cloudy and that was it. I was cutting the hedge down and was a bit disappointed tbh.

Hopefully, you'll have a better view this time, I was in Cornwall in 1999, I have a photo of us in my friend's garden, we're all wearing raincoats but it really looks like nighttime, it was so dark!

There's a really good website which shows the details of upcoming eclipses:

Hope everyone gets a good view on Wednesday! 🌞🌚

It's totality over Greenland, Iceland and Spain. For those in 90% it might just be like clouds coming over

It went slightly/a bit darker (I think)

I'd forgotten some washing I'd left out from the other day which I decided to bring in when I reckoned the eclipse was happening so I'd have a quick look then.

All my curtains were drawn as my house is like a giant storage heater in this weather so I was just going by quality of light coming in through the bedroom curtains whislt I was reading on my bed. It seemed to go a bit darker (to me) so I thought I'd nip out then.

On going out I was surprised there were a fair few eclipse watchers on the nearby hill roughly around 40-50.
There's no vehicle access so they'd all hiked up there in this lovely heat.
Probably 20 more wandering like sheep in the neighbouring field.
So it was definately popular.

I'd just gone out in a summer lightweight dressing gown having recently showered (it's long and gave "full coverage" )and some trainers so felt distinctly under dressed in that situation though my hair was decent.

I gave a courtly though half hearted wave/wan smile at those reasonably close to the garden wall who clocked my sudden appearance behind the lowish wall.
Everyone was very quiet and peaceful.

I then gathered my washing up and withdrew back indoors as elegantly and suavely as possible.

I was a bit ruffled/surprised TBH.
I didn't expect there to be so many people about and they were quiet so wasn't aware at first and my focus was on the nearby hill.

Maybe they were all backgrid photographers and I'll turn up in the society pages of the DM at a later date.

Thankfully there were no fireworks.
The hill the main body of watchers were sited on is still black from prior fires a few weeks back so my concerns are real I'm afraid.

My "eclipse journey" by Rave Champion.

(I'd still like to see more pics from other posters though as I'm having an energy crisis this afternoon)

And we're off! 🤩 I decided against eclipse glasses in the end (I may regret that lol) - I like the idea of 'seeing' it the same way our ancestors have for millennia.

If you haven't checked it out already, I 100% recommend the website that @klarakluckbag mentioned upthread: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/

If you input your location it will give you precise times and positions, and an animation of what it will look like in your area. They also livestream the whole eclipse. There's a lot of site traffic at the moment, so it may be slow loading etc.

Not alot happened here, went a bit dark now back to normal, nothing like the eerie feeling of the 1999 one!

I can't take the credit for the pic, my sister took it. We went to the beach to watch, there was a sizeable crowd (and the Spanish civil guard!) and a huge roar went up at the moment of totality. There was a spectacular pink prominence visible, and the whole corona was golden, which I wasn't expecting. A wonderful sight and well worth the journey. Majorca is a beautiful island but it's been so hot, I've almost regretted not choosing an Iceland trip instead! (Country, not supermarket 😬)

From the 'be careful what you wish for' department, this one a few minutes before the peak, demonstrating the effectiveness of the super black plastic (possibly mince) pie tray camera protector
eclipse_202608121858ish_shielded_no_zoom.jpg

Experienced visual analysts may have already spotted that this was taken without any zoom.
I will check with my colleagues over at 'are you really sure you want this' to see if they have anything.

Pleased that despite my crap camera skills (didn't get a chance to try the bucket of water thing, nowhere for it to sensibly go) I did manage to get a proper look and appreciate the moment.
Interestingly it didn't seem like the wildlife was particularly spooked (suburbs here, the sun disappears well before actual sunset anyway) and because the air is currently on 'medium bake' there didn't seem to be much of a noticeable chill.
