Early morning sickness

OK this might sound stupid an honestly even I find it ridiculous but I don't feel like I can go to a doctor for fear that they will just think am wasting time over this

Does anyone else if woken before a certain time feel physically ill? Like super nauseous, for years now I've found it incredibly hard to get up before 7am without feeling sick, in summers I can occasionally be OK after 6.30am because the room gets lighter earlier but in winter when it's dark it has to be after 7am otherwise am ill

It doesn't matter if I've even had a really good night's sleep either, I can have a full 7/8 hours solid sleep an feel ill getting up before 7am compared to if I had had 3 hours sleep an get up at 8am which aside from being tired am OK

I've tried everything from leaving curtains open so it's light super early in the room, to getting those lights that start getting lighter to mimic sun and even tried getting up at 8am an tried working back 10 mins till 6am but guaranteed if it's before 7am am going be ill no matter what I do, an that stays with me the entire day

It gets to me cause I feel like others see me as being lazy an can't be bothered to get up since being up early hours is no problem to them, they just say am using excuses cause am being lazy but honestly it's really not, I just can't find how to not feel so ill getting up so early

It’s actually more common than you’d think.

Have you had your cortisol level checked? There are a whole host of other things that could cause it (stress, dehydration, low blood sugar to name but a few)

Really? I always believed it was just somthing stupid an it was more in my head than actually anything wrong an I couldn't explain the sickness

I haven't had that checked no, I did when I was highly anxious go through blood checks an they said I was low on iron an vitamin D so I took stuff for those but even with that I'd still feel the same sickness in the mornings

I used to hate when we would be going on holiday an I needed to be up around 4am or 5am etc cause I'd almost be throwing up it was so bad

Could you be anxious? Sometimes you might have anxiety without realising it. Is your job stressful and/or demanding?
I definitely know am anxious, I've suffered from anxiety for a few years now but this hasn't been since then, I think I properly noticed I was like this from around 8 or 9 years old am I was eary 20s my anxiety kicked off

From my personal experience, anxiety can definitely cause sickness and just mess up your digestive system in general. I always feel bad in the mornings when anxious. I don’t think it’s ridiculous to go to a doctor if it’s been bothering you for such a long time x

I get nauseous in the morning sometimes, especially if I'm anxious. These "sea bands" have really helped me recently. They're made to help with motion sickness but I find them really effective:

Very common yes. I’ve actually seen patients referred for exploratory surgery because they can’t find any other issues.

Cortisol isn’t always included in your standard blood profile so it might be worth asking your GP if they can run it for you. Cortisol tends to peak in the morning so if you are low or have any kind of hormone imbalance it could be causing trouble. If you can’t get a blood test/don’t want too, try to stick to a strict sleeping schedule - sleeping and waking at the same time and make sure you’re eating enough, but try to avoid eating or drink anything (apart from herbal tea or water) for at least 2 hours before you go to bed.

Anxiety, as you’ve mentioned you do suffer, can cause loads of gastrointestinal issues.

If you do find it slightly better in the summer, it might be worth investing in a natural wake light to see if it helps.

Thanks for all the help, I'll maybe try the sick bands an see how I go, I did try the light thing but it didn't work an I might also speak with the doctor about my cortisol as well, I know my anxiety can cause sickness but I only feel that when I have to be going somewhere that i know will be stressful for me but it's a different sort of sickness I feel with anxiety an this, even days that I know am going be chilling in the house an am not anxious I can still feel this morning sickness, I try not to eat after 6pm an have been reading a hour before bed to see if I can get a deeper sleep with a quiet mind but again all I need to do is wake up before 7am an it's back to this
