Ear piercing- infected?

Advice welcome! My 9yo had her ears pierced at the start of the summer holidays. No issues at all, cleaned twice a day etc.
She took them out after 8 weeks, again no issues. They've been taken out once a week for school PE and she puts them back in fine.
3 days ago she woke up in the night and her hair had got tangled around the stud, she was upset and it was sore. We cleaned it several times during the next day but it's gone ever so sore. We took it out yesterday and it has a red bump next to the back of the piercing. She tried to put it back in earlier and got too upset so we have left it.
I don't know if it will heal up, but she was so upset saying it hurt. Any advice at all? I've been cleaning it with the solution and salt water. Anything else I can do?

I’m no dr but it’s taken months for my ears to fully heal. I would take the stud out after six to eight weeks and then really struggle to get it back in, it would really hurt! It was red and lumpy. I’d pop back in to the piercing place and ask their advice- it might just need more time without the stud being removed.

Not an expert but I've had my fair share of troublesome piercings. I'd suggest leaving the stud out for a few days to let it settle. Also I know it sounds counter intuitive but keep cleaning to a minimum. My piercer told me over-cleaning can be an issue.

I often find putting the stud back in after a bath/hair wash is best because the skin is softer.

Thanks for the tips. Left it out till tonight and after a shower it looked much better. Took a while but she got it back in, with no gunk or bleeding. Leaving it in now for a week as its half term! And making a point of tying her hair up for bed haha x

Might be different am not sure, I got bumps when I got my piercing, people suggested surgical spirit, DO NOT try that because holy hell is stung like crazy

I got mine pierced at a tattoo place an believe it or not they suggested I go swimming with mine, an it cleared up within two days of going swimming, I'd probably stick with the solution but if you can get her swimming give it a go, I had bumps on an off until a few days of swimming an I've never had them back

I have a lot of trouble with piercings and them getting sore/ infected. Overcleaning can be an issue but also the type of jewellery you have in. I prefer flat backed bars over studs so there’s room for swelling as it heals. With my last two lobe piercings I had one stud and one flat-back bar and the difference was big. The heal time was slower with the stud and it would frequently get irritated. The bar had 0 issues.
