Dermaplaning

Has anyone had this professionally done?
I'm really tempted. I've got a lot of fine hair on the sides of my face and a bit thicker on my chin. My make up sometimes doesn't sit right there and I also have some scaring which it is said to improve.
Any stories or tips? I would do it myself but I'm scared I would balls it up! Where I live it seems to be about £45 for a session.

I do my own. I use eyebrow razors, you need to go lightly as you don't want to scrape your skin. It's fairly easy, I've never cut myself and it leaves my skin so smooth as it lightly exfoliates as well as removes the hair. The eyebrow razors are £3 from Superdrug

I do my sideboards and chin. The first time I did it I did the whole lot apart from my nose, which you aren't supposed to do but I have virtually no peach fuzz on my forehead so it seemed pointless. You could try with a safety razor but you don't get the exfoliation from that, it just removes the peach fuzz. It isn't difficult, but take your time doing it and you'll get the hang of it

I buy these and do it at home. Use a facial oil as it helps make the razor glide and don’t go over the same area a lot of times. I’ve never cut myself and I can really notice the difference in skincare and make-up application! I do it religiously every 3 weeks now

Thank you, I think I might give it a go!! I really notice hair around my upper lip and chin.
The hair for me seems thicker on my upper lip though, not like peach fuzz as it is on my side of my face. Do you do your upper lip with this too?

I'm going to pop into Asda when my daughter is at club later and get some of the little razors you guys have recommended and give it a go tonight!!

I had mine done professionally a few times before covid and was so shocked about how much blonde peach fuzz I have, and like @under the ivy said my make up goes on so much better as does my skin care, I also do it myself now as was paying over £40 for something that’s super easy to do!

I've read that you shouldn't use any acids or retinol on your face after you've dermaplaned as your skin is super sensitive.

Ladies - stupid question but what is the regrowth like? I want to give it a go especially if it means it helps with skin care but I'm imagining a face as stubbly as my legs!

I've never experienced stubble! It grows back exactly same, peach fuzz!

I was thinking this too, like imagining a stubbly beard!! I've watched some videos and everyone says it grows back the same. I'm guessing if we do it every 3 or 4 weeks it won't be too much regrowth anyway.

I haven't done it yet, I'm weirdly nervous!!!

I have a fear I'll end up with a shaving rash and I'm panicking now about my upper lip, because the hair there isn't peach fuzz, it is alot more 'hair' like

My husband is away with work till tomorrow and I wanted to do it whilst he wasn't here incase he got the ick seeing me shave my face so I bit the bullet and did it.

I am soooo impressed with how it looks! My skin feels so smooth and I can already tell its going to make me feel so much more confident. I've always been aware of hair on my face, especially in the sunlight if I'm talking to someone.

I used the advice above and used some facial oil which definitely made it glide easier. Took me a while to get the knack of which angle and way to pull the tool down. I was shocked how grubby the oil was coming off with the hair!! I only did my side of cheeks and chin and upper lip. Found the chin and upper lip the trickiest just for angles.

I used the torch on my phone every few minutes to shine on my face and see if I had missed any patches. I'd say I spent 20 minutes or so doing it but I imagine it won't take me that long next time. Not sure how fast it will grow back but I don't mind doing it every week or 2 of I have to.

Can't believe I was going to pay £45 for someone else to do it! Super excited to see how my make up applies tomorrow.

Let's hope I don't wake up with a shaving rash!

Glad you took the plunge, it's really addictive.

I've never used an oil when dermaplaning as I always wanted the exfoliation to be ramped up. Did it still exfoliate?

I’m trained in it & tbf it’s pretty easy, good exfoliate- I use a balm not oil. You’ll find your serums etc soak in better.
With regards to re growth it does feel a bit different just because it’s a blunt edge of the hair but 100% doesn’t come back thicker etc. just be careful and keep to 45 degrees with the blade. Xx

My skin still feels so smooth so I think so. On the bits where I hadn't quite rubbed the oil and I caught them, it felt a bit rougher so I preferred the feeling of an oil underneath. If your way works for you though then no need to change it!
