Took the advice from here and have set my Instagram to an hour and it was such a good idea! It definitely makes me more discerning about what I'm watching and as there's a time limit , I don't want to waste my hour watching people ramble on about boring bs on stories!

I deleted FB years ago and Instagram about two months ago. I would find myself watching reel after reel and hours would pass. Yes there was some sweet animal stuff but the majority of it was stuff I really didn't need to know about.
I also felt so annoyed by idiot families dancing, people exploiting their little kids and all the make up and products obsessives, flogging crap. Ugh. I used to feel tainted and down after these addictive sessions. I don't miss any of it! 😊

I trimmed my social media down a LOT. I've got a Facebook with about 30 "friends" it is all family. Set to private and rarely share anything. It is mostly used to organise family events via messenger and the occasional birthday post. The rest I don't use. It does wonders for my mental health. I'm not following pointless drama or getting emotionally invested in the latest trend etc.

So in the long run this did not work 🤣 I began ignoring it and was back to where I started!
What HAS worked for me this past month is cutting out short form video scrolling. I saw something on This morning that said multiple videos under 1 min are detrimental to your brain and for some reason this really stuck with me. For every cute cat video I'd be getting multiple distressing videos. I now have a rule where I can watch any video on Instagram, but I can't scroll- I have to go out of it and back into another video. I've been doing this for almost a month now and this definitely stops the cycle. My Instagram use is down about an hour a day 🙌
I'm finding it easier and more satisfying watching longer form content on YouTube again!

My husband decided to stop mindless scrolling on social media. However, he replaced this with playing on his ds non stop and is now even less present.
