Super random thread here!

Ive had a cyst on my back for years. Over the last couple of weeks it’s gotten infected. Went through antibiotics/warm compresses, GP kept saying it was fine, it ended in a MASSIVE abscess on my back. Ended up in hospital having it lanced and drained.

Its now being packed daily (unbelievably painful!) at the doctors or urgent care. Definitely picked it’s time to get infected with covid the way it is.

Has anyone been through similar and had a wound that had to be packed daily? If so how long did it take for yours to heal and what was your experience with it?x

You havent got a temperature have you ? do you feel ok apart from the pain ? x
No temperature and I’m feeling ok thanks! I’m on antibiotics just in case.

Just such a massive pain and worry having it there and having it repacked every day for the foreseeable x

I had a cyst on my chest that the drs refused to take off for years. It got infected loads and was unsightly. I didnt have to have it packed afterwards just dissolvable stitches. At least you are getting it sorted out now and im glad you dont feel ill. I hope somebody will reply with some better advice for you soon. I suppose if they are repacking it every day then at least they are keeping an eye on it, although horrible for you. I hope it heals up soon xx

I have pretty mega health anxiety so this is probably a way bigger deal to me than it would be to anyone else x

Thanks so much! And thank you for replying. And yes the one good think about daily repacking is that I get to have it checked over and have the reassurance that it’s ok (definitely need that!) xx

I would be worried too. Turning into an abscess is very unpleasant, in a way its good that they have to see you everyday and then you will know its not infected xx I do believe you will be ok, might take a short while to heal up and its being kept nice and clean, thats the main thing x

Yes I had an abscess for a few months. I was in so much pain but I just kept telling myself it would go away. I eventually went A&E and they were shocked at how long I had it for considering how painful it was.

I had it drained and packed daily at home for a few weeks - sorry I can't remember how long as it was for definite as it was years ago now. I wasn't in any pain after it was drained and have been fine since.
