Cutting friends off

I cut a toxic friend off around 10 years ago and found blocking and deleting phone numbers was the only way I could stick with it. I do think it helps that I don’t have social media.
Very happy with my decision though.

The piece of advice I can offer is don't let her know why you are cutting her out as it will just make things worse. I cut a friend off in my last year of uni and felt bad about it so wrote a letter to her, which I had a mutual friend read first. After the mutal friend read it she was like under no circumstances send the letter, she said she would've been very upset if somebody gave her a letter like that.
The thing is everybody thinks they want to know but when you really tell them they get more upset/angry/petty/toxic - insert any word that would work for her.
I refused to discuss it with the rest of our friendship group and just told them that if I was going to discuss the issue with anybody it would be with the friend I cut off. I never bad mouthed her as it would've only made me look bad.
I also didn't tell my friends if they invited me somewhere that they couldn't invite her. When we were together in a social situation I was polite but mainly ignored her.

I find "disappearing" for a while helps. Even if it means taking a break from social media and not answering any calls. My personal strategy is pretending I am "working on myself" and let things fizzle out naturally.

Honestly it will be the best thing you’ve ever done. My situation was a little different but me and a close friend had been drifting apart for over a year but I’d also caught her out on a few lies a couple of times but the final straw was when she was suppose to go to my hen do nearly 2 years ago at this point it had been booked organised and deposits had been paid nearly a year in advance and she basically messaged my sister a month or two before saying she wasn’t going cause she was moving house and was busy doing her house up and couldn’t afford it but then messaged me a few weeks later and told me something completely different and said she didn’t feel comfortable going because she didn’t know anyone which would have been perfectly fine if she had of just said that from the start but she knew from the beginning when it was planned that nobody was going that she knew. All the girls had been told from the start that if they’ve paid a deposit to go and dont my go that they still had to pay for their spot as it wasn’t fair on other people having to pay the extra because they pulled out. She mentioned nothing to my sister about paying the rest of the money she just told her don’t worry about the deposit and to keep it, the initial deposit was only £10 lol anyway basically the weekend of the hen she went away on holiday to Poland with her boyfriend and also paid my sister the money she owed for the hen so obviously ‘can’t afford it’ was a load of crap but we haven’t spoken since that and just decided to cut all ties and I blocked her on everything and didn’t really realise how toxic she was until she was gone and I wouldn’t want to go back there
