I hate that they've come back to the town centre now, they are out in droves again. They always tell me I look friendly, I always tell them I'm not. I always tell them I don't care about the cause they are collecting for, no matter what it is, children, the homeless, pensioners. I don't care if they think I'm mean or heartless, I donate to charity when I want to, not when I'm guilt tripped into it. It really shouldn't be allowed, if they had been around when I was younger I would have been too soft to say no. I think they give charities a bad name tbh.

They’re not supposed to accept cash, that sounds like a volunteer shaking a bucket!Plus they're often for bigger charities which probably take huge admin cuts so how much goes to the cause anyway.
It's uncomfortable enough when they try and stop you but the ones who follow you are the worst! I've had more than one offer to entertainer me to the cash machine if I didn't have cash or when they say they'll wait for you to finish your errand/shop
I know they’re just doing their job but I think it’s really gross to harass people after the year/18 months we’ve just had…lots of people will be struggling after COVID and shouldn’t be made to feel bad about not donating to any causes. I don’t even acknowledge them now, I’ve picked the charities I choose to support and funnily enough I’ve never seen them out anywhere with buckets. I do wonder if using such aggressive fundraising methods actually has the opposite effect because they’re just such a nuisance.

Seemed dodgy to me too! They said if I didn't want to sign up they'd accept a one-off donation. Maybe they wanted to run off with the cash themselves

I got stopped this morning by one that tried stopping me a few days ago, but I just rushed past him.
He said, I tried to call out to you, so I lied (not sure why) and said, oh I'm a bit deaf.
Turns out it was to sign up to donate to the deaf children's society

Normally I don't, but he stepped out right in front of me....next time I'll run him down with the pram haha!
If approached, I just lift one arm with the palm facing them and say 'I can't stop.'
I heard Jamie theakston on the radio this morning giving it a hard sell about donating to the global campaign or whatever it’s called And ‘don’t be one of those people who can’t be bothered, it’s only a fiver’ etc. Didn’t realise he was a chugger now. Didn’t hear Jamie and Amanda sticking their hand in their pockets!
Some of them do step into your path which pisses me off. Get out of my personal space! I’m much more firm with ignoring them now but I cringe when I think back a few years ago when I let a religious leafleter stop me and 5 mins later I found myself handing over a fiver for a pamplet on Hari Khrisna... I’m not religious but they caught me on a gulliable day, ever since then I’ve decided I won’t be stopped by anyone whether it be a charity chugger, a religious leafleter or a political recruiter. I felt so silly as I walked away.
