I once was taught the trick of distracting them when they clock you and you KNOW they’re about to come and approach you.
Just stare at their shoes in disgust/absolute state of confusion, they then stare down at their feet to see what the problem is and you RUN AWAYYY!

works every time 😂😂😂

I had one shout after me “don’t you care about sick kids”. I shouted back, no I am a heartless bitch me. How dare these people harass you in the street. I will never sign up to something in the street, I have direct debits for monthly donations to the charities I have chosen to donate to after doing my own research. They probably bring in £s but their methods stink.

Can't stand these morons. They don't care about the charity, otherwise they'd volunteer.

Seen a few who all try to be friendly and cheeky, literally the same script over and over again. One in my town said to me (as he did everyone else)

"Ello Fella, you look friendly!.." to which I replied I was out on license for GBH but thank you for the glowing character reference. (Please note, i was joking about the GBH)

I applied for a job once after I left uni as a ‘marketing assistant’ which turned out to be a chugger. I passed the interview (which consisted of a load of people in a room, calling me up to a desk to take my name/number/availability, then sent on my way). Came back to the offices a few days later and was put into groups and I realised then that this wasn’t what I thought it was 😂 I made my excuses that I needed to nip in Boots to buy some water and got the bus home 😂🤭

I had an interview to be a chugger once (I was desperate but didn't get it) but I haven't seen any round here for years.

I hate charities chasing you for money though. I donated some one-off money to a local animal sanctuary on someone's behalf last year and they still keep sending me letters telling me their Donkeys are running out of hay... maybe if you didn't keep hassling countless people with begging letters you can buy them more hay!

Just ignore them. Don't engage with them. You're not obliged to get into conversations with stranger. I act like they don't exist and just walk by.

Surely people must only donate because of guilt or feeling harassed - especially when they're in train stations or town centres when everyone is in a rush. I do feel bad though as it must be an awful job as well but some are so rude!

I hate that they've come back to the town centre now, they are out in droves again. They always tell me I look friendly, I always tell them I'm not. I always tell them I don't care about the cause they are collecting for, no matter what it is, children, the homeless, pensioners. I don't care if they think I'm mean or heartless, I donate to charity when I want to, not when I'm guilt tripped into it. It really shouldn't be allowed, if they had been around when I was younger I would have been too soft to say no. I think they give charities a bad name tbh.

I have mastered the art of the stern gaze and the firm no. Try it, what is the worse that can happen? Channel somebody kick ass, say no, go about your day.

Sometimes you can go down one street and get asked 4 times by a different chugger for the same charity. Used to incense me when the guy used to say smile, like every other creep on the street. The men target the women, the young females target the men. Supposed to be won over by their charms.

Had one tell me recently “you look like a nice smiley young lady.”

I told him “no, I’m not” and walked on. Patronising tosser.

I tell them straight that im not interested. I cannot stand them, its an awful job for them and I hate being hounded. My town banned them and it was lovely walking through town without being bothered. They're back now though, years later.

I’m very good at saying a firm not interested as I walk past them. I hate the ones that knock at your door too, so intrusive. They prey on the vulnerable.

I know they’re just doing their job but I think it’s really gross to harass people after the year/18 months we’ve just had…lots of people will be struggling after COVID and shouldn’t be made to feel bad about not donating to any causes. I don’t even acknowledge them now, I’ve picked the charities I choose to support and funnily enough I’ve never seen them out anywhere with buckets. I do wonder if using such aggressive fundraising methods actually has the opposite effect because they’re just such a nuisance.

I always tell them i only give to three charities every year and they are set up in january the first. Sometimes they try to catch me out by asking which ones but i always reel of the three closest to my heart and the ones i actually donate to on regular. I dont set up direct debits to them though.

I got stopped this morning by one that tried stopping me a few days ago, but I just rushed past him.
He said, I tried to call out to you, so I lied (not sure why) and said, oh I'm a bit deaf.
Turns out it was to sign up to donate to the deaf children's society
Don’t engage, don’t engage. He doesn’t want to chat, you won’t hurt his feelings, he wants to earn commission from you. Keep on rushing. No eye contact.
