I really liked the whole Ottawa crew in The Long Game, and it's good to see them back, even though it makes me want a puppy.
i love the centaurs so much (i await all of their casting announcements every day 🤣) - i love that this one has a lot of wyatt, who is my favourite.

it absolutely did make me want a dog too. again, can’t wait to see connor storrie cuddling one in a year 🤣

Potentially unpopular opinion, but I finished The God Of Small Things last night and…meh🤷‍♀️. I get that there was some beautiful writing in there but it felt like the first 2/3 was filler and the main plot was rushed into the end of the book. I also wasn’t a fan of the time jumps and how ambiguous they were. There were a few times I had to go back and reread to make sure I was on the right time line.

Sorry to everyone who loved it but it’s going on the “overhyped” pile for me.
I didn’t know it was hyped at all! I read it over twenty years ago and was utterly consumed, I found it incredibly moving. I’ve meant to read it again but I’m so frightened I won’t love it as much. I didn’t know anything about it back then, now returning to it as a much cherished favourite book, there’s so much pressure. Can it even still be a favourite book then?!

Can you stretch autumn to like… Christmas?
Good Spirits by BK Borison is my ride or die.
Though having said that, I’ve been thinking about rereading into the blue again lately but given the last part of your post…. Don’t choose that.
i’m so desperate for a good book and a distraction from my anxiety i would read the paper upside down to see if i can make up a new word. thanks for the rec x

I'm so glad to see so much love for A Tree Grows In Brooklyn in so many people's top 10s. That is my cosy, comforting read. I have gifted it to so many people.

I once recommended it on this thread about 4 years ago and everyone then hated it!
I've never even heard of it 😳
Away I go to look it up

i literally just reread boyfriend material and YES - lucien is the absolute worst. he doesn’t deserve oliver at all, and he’s so awful to him sometimes. it’s even more annoying because lucien could literally change his own disaster-ness if he just experienced some kind of emotional growth but, no.

alexis hall is a decent writer but I HATE how all their characters are zany stereotypes of people who just wouldn’t/couldn’t exist in the real world. lucien’s whole friendship group and work colleagues in particular just annoy me so much.
It is just everyone is a stereotype and they aren't real characters.

I'm gonna have to go steal a fictional book character for myself as well now. 😂😂😂

I’m halfway through reading. I invited her in! By Adele Parks.
Nothing of note has happened yet and I’m finding that I’m skim reading some of the chapters … way too much unnecessary detail, in my opinion.

My question is, is it worth continuing with it? 🥴

I am currently reading Book Lovers by Emily Henry....it's not grabbing me much at the moment. Unsure it this will be one I finish.

I feel like I am in such a reading slump at the moment.

I had a very similar experience, bought it to read pre HTL and was totally captivated and couldn’t put it down all weekend. It was a weekend I wasn’t feeling well too so even more of an achievement for the book lol often I can’t focus when I’m ill despite wanting to use the opportunity to devour as many books as possible.

Tempted to get something else of hers but not sure what yet.
Apparently Euphoria was her first hit and won some prizes so for been tempted by that

Ooooooh, and? How does it compare to Almost Life? I thought that was beautifully written but I was bored in places and willing it to be over by the end.
I missed off the key info (too hot!).. I preferred it! I felt much more engaged with the characters, like you - I was happy for Almost Life to be over.

Josh Widdicombe's Archive of Pop Culture latest episodes are about Arthur Conan Doyle - interesting about him as an author and other bits about other authors too.

Last: The quiet tenant - Clemence Michallon
Now: It could have been her - Lisa Jewell (can’t put it down!)
Next: Our Perfect Storm - Carley Fortune.
I loved The Quiet Tenent. Such an underrated book.
