I think everyone agrees there should be benefits for those on hard times so they can survive. But also there's a significant amount that don't want to work and it's a choice. Take this family on 65k from benefits (once you add in housing allowance) and this was filmed ages ago.
Not all benefit claimants are like this, but there's lots thst are but I feel like I can't say this in real life without being called bigoted

Such a problem with the benefits system. It should be less than NMW to encourage people back to work. I think it’s important to have a social system where people can get help but then they need to be working. Childcare is also a massive barrier because most nurseries cost more than NMW after any tax to send the kids there. It’s been proven that if the Gov subsidised nurseries the economy would benefit as more women could return to work.

It is less than minimum wage. As a disabled person I get about £480 every 2 weeks. UC for a single person is less than £400 a month.

I don’t understand why these young women on benefits get free childcare? They are doing nothing all day at least look after your kids! I had to have 2 jobs to pay for my childcare when mine were little

Couldn’t agree more with this. The amount of childcare you get subsidised should depend on the hours you work.

It’s for child development rather than to benefit the parents. So that children from lower economic backgrounds are given access to early years education and provided with opportunities to socialise outside their immediate family that they might not otherwise have.

I know someone who gets £2k plus her detached 3 bed house paid for. She’s never worked a day in her life and has birthed 3 kids. That’s not fair whilst I’m paying thousands in tax a month and saving like crazy so I can afford maternity.

I think the problem is that there are a significant number of people in the UK who are incapable of work. Of following instructions, of deferring to people in authority, of dealing with stroppy customers, turning up on time and turning up every day they're scheduled to work.

Years ago, people with limited skills went to work in factories - boring, repetitive but you earned a good living. Those jobs are no longer available. Plus the whole turning up thing is now problematic.

So what can you do. We can't send people to work houses any more. So as a country we need to give them money to live. I do believe the benefits system has been cut to bare bones. There probably are some people who get more than they're entitled but there are always chancers

Just like there are millionaires who don't pay their fair share

I read that as there are an awful lot of adults with behaviour that will make a seven year old ashamed.

A lot of these people will be complaining that ‘immigrants are stealing our jobs’, without ever worked a day in their life, just popping out 6 children instead. This doesn’t include disability benefits though, as you can’t help being disabled.

She can't be getting that much unless shes a carer or has disability on her claim. You can't get more than £1835 if outside London and £2110 inside London

She claims to have BPD. She doesn’t. Not that I am disputing her diagnosis but she knows how to play the system. Her entire family acknowledge it.

We both work part time and used our 30 hour childcare and if we didn't our youngest probably wouldn't have got his autism diagnosis so they've been incredible for us

Reality tv there is the difference you work, most of them dont bother n don’t get me started on disability a friend of my daughters has never had a job since she left school, she is now in her thirties claiming disability for a hip problem which the nhs paid £36k to fix privately so there is nothing wrong with her now. Well when she rides her horses/goes to Orlando numerous times a year there doesn’t appear to be. It’s this kind of thing that really angers people

Gets free dentistry and prescription yet we are always above the line and I have a thyroid problem have to pay a tenner every three months for my tablets...

The motability cars are not means tested though. You can only get them if you qualify for a high rate mobility payment (PIP or DLA) and you can either receive that payment in your bank to spend s you wish or use it towards a motability lease. Which is just a discounted lease scheme. And a huge business with a £4-5bn annual turnover.

So you could be working full time on a decent salary but still entitled to mobility payments and use them towards a motability lease.

I’m a bit confused, you said in one breath she doesn’t have BPD but then says you’re not disputing her diagnosis of BPD.

I have worked for 35 years.. still battling the system to get Universal Credit.
3 mths in and nothing.
It is my first time dealing with DWP.
I find it hearbreaking.
I just want a little help until I find a job.
I really want to work!!

Yes but you've still got the whole turning up on time and every day.

I've worked full time for nearly 40yrs. About 10yrs ago I had a spell of depression and was off work for 6 weeks. But other than this I've had very few sick days.

Like a lot of folk my age, I've dragged my bahookie into work feeling like death warmed up. But I watch staff half my age taking time off for every little twinge!!! Some staff take at least one day off per month and when questioned, they cite Mental Health difficulties and the games a bogey.

However the lassie who's got 2 kids, 20yrs service and live a fair distance away gets her wages docked if she gets stuck in traffic.

I actually worked with a lassie who was with the same GP practice as me. On the rare occasion I needed an appointment, I could only get a telephone appointment. She phoned up the same day and was offered a face to face appointment that afternoon!!!

For a problem that was caused by her breast augmentation that she paid for privately!!!

Anyway, I do think work is more complicated these days and a lot of people are just too thick to work.
