Bells palsy

Hi everyone

Has anyone had or have experience of anyone with bells palsy? I was diagnosed a few days ago and I'm scared this will leave permanent damage to my face. I've done reading I know it's different for everyone it could be weeks or months, with a small percentage of it being permanent. It's affected the whole right side, unable to smile, eat and drink properly, eyes don't vkink properly.

I'm just devastated. I know there's worst things that could happen, but I think it could seriously affect my mental health. We've all been cooped up in the house since March, now I feel I still can't go outside and will keep on isolating myself.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis . Has your GP been able to offer support ? Angelina Jolie was diagnosed and i believe she is ok now ?

Thats great to know! Hopefully someone will be able to give better advice than myself. This would be a massive shock as this condition can effect anyone and should have more awareness.

So sorry to hear this. I knew someone who got this and it was just temporary and did not last long. Hope you are ok x

hello,
yes i have suffered from this myself earlier this year. about 90% back to normal now.
has your GP prescribed anything- i would recommend pushing for prednisone if you havnt been already.

Glad to hear you're almost back to normal. Yes I'm on prednisone. Did they investigate what might have caused it for you? Or was it just a case of taking the treatment.

There is no known cause as far as im aware, even using prednisone isnt really a proven treatment, its just an anit-inflamatory.
From personal experience i would recomend some eye drops as your eye wont naturally keep closed at night and can cause dryness, and maybe get some medical tape to tape your eye closed.
The only lasting effect i have is that when i frown, my forhead crinkles dont match up haha.

My mum and boyfriend have both had this. It’s viral is it not and comes from a draught eg. open car window. Both mum and bf fine no lasting effects or damage. Although I think my mum was signed off work about 2 months before it cleared up

Friend of mine had this it left him with side of his mouth a wee bit droopy,you don’t really notice it,he had flare up again couple of years ago but cleared up and was fine.

One of my friends had it last year. It just can’t on one night and it took about 4 weeks for it to completely go. He got really down about, and was off work. But then one night his mate told him to join him for a beer in the garden, he was reluctant at first because he was so embarrassed to be seen- but he went, let his hair down and had a few beers. The next day it started to go. He reckons because he relaxed that it went!! Who knows!!
