It's been spoken about in the Crime thread, but is now such a big ongoing story it needs its own thread. She should be looking at a lot of years locked up abroad. She is an adult. She knew what she was doing taking the risk. Her whole social media screams wealth, so it won't have been the first time she's done something dodgy, just the first time she's been caught.

Sadly I think they will play her as young and impresonable and taken advantage of, and she will be allowed to return home.

Haven't read the crime thread so probably just repeating everyone else's points, but the whole case makes no sense to me. Why smuggle weed into Georgia where it's practically legal anyway? Why in such a huge quantity where she was obviously going to get caught - it must have been more than half her checked baggage weight?! How much does weed go for in Georgia that she thought it was worth taking a risk like this, it's not like she was bringing 14 kilos of c and was gonna be set for life? I've heard some people suggest it was ultimately destined for Russia over land, where it is super illegal so maybe would be worth more, but in that case why not get it from Georgia to begin with, instead of taking the extra risk (and expense) of flying someone over from Thailand with it? There aren't even any direct flights from anywhere in SEA to Georgia as far as I know, almost all routes transit through the Middle East, which is an even more stupid region to smuggle drugs into.

She seems unbelievably thick. It's sad that she's been so bloody stupid and ruined her life so young, but if you're old enough to travel the world you should be old enough to know drug smuggling into Eastern Europe is not going to end well.

I wouldn't be surprised if she'd been persuaded by some bloke she believed she was in love with. I kind of feel pity for her, because she seems more stupid than malicious but ffs let's not spend loads of public money on her, far more deserving 18 year olds.

I’m sick of seeing the story in the papers. If she didn’t have hundreds of bikini pictures on her social media there’s no way she would have got so much coverage. She doesn’t seem to have much care for consequences, living a party lifestyle while pregnant at 18 and getting involved in drug smuggling while boasting of a drug dealer lifestyle for everyone to see.

I have also been wondering this. I’ve seen people suggest it was a sting? So the Georgian officials were tipped off about her so that a bigger shipment of potentially something else could get through.

After seeing the video of her today where the reporters are trying to interview her I absolutely believe she pushed into doing what she did.
She also clearly has no idea how much its been reported on and how much press are onto it. She looked absolutely terrified. I don't know how she has managed in that jail. She like a very young child.

There is a lot of very nasty comments being made about her on social media. Lots of people seem to have been very excited about the idea of her being punished and then being disappointed that she hasn't been punished to their satisfaction.

I wonder how they would feel if one of their own kids ended up in the same situation? I bet they would soon change their tune.

Just been talking to someone who knows the family and apparently they are a family of dealers/runners so she was following in the family business, well known in their area for it.

I’ve also heard this, that she regularly was posting on Snapchat with drugs etc. I did wonder how they’d magically found the bail money!

They used a random house in Billingham for the outside pictures when she arrived home. I also read she is a student nurse?

I don't blame them for doing that. There will probably be people who eould want to turn up to get a look at her or to pester the family if they knew her real address.

I think she will probably have to move out of the area or change her name.

She was a student nurse. Not sure if it something she would be allowed to continue with after what has happened, I don't know nhs/university policy on what happens if someone commits a crime whilst training.

She’ll have missed a lot of the term as they start back in September. Even if the uni does let her enroll, the nhs won’t allow her in the hospital on placement as they need a DBS and hers will come back as a fail. So she’ll need to rethink any sort of job in health care
