Just from reading what you've posted above, could it be sciatica? It can be really quite debilitating! Especially if all your symptoms are down one side? Doesn't sound like what the GP has diagnosed to me, especially if it is affecting your life to the point that you feel disabled by it.
I was thinking this to or a hernia?

Oh bless you :( Have you been back to the docs?
Not yet. I think I’ll have to book another appointment. I haven’t done any of the exercises he gave me to do as I can’t bear the thought of it. I’m in pain all the time so I can’t find the motivation to put myself through more discomfort.

Where do you live? Apparently most people in North England/Scotland are VitD deficient as standard.

As a minimum I think you should ask for antidepressants if you aren't already on them, or increase the dose. Any chronic pain is debilitating physically and mentally. Being disinterested is a common sign of depression.
