Went to the hairdresser today and shortly after I got home my neck started hurting. I figured I’d just slept funny and it was only as it got progressively worse over the day that my husband suggested that I probably strained it leaning back to get my hair washed 😩 It seems like too much of a coincidence to not be the case to be honest,

It’s really bleeping uncomfortable ; it’s got progressively stiffer all day ( Ooh err! Clearly my sense of humour is intact!)and after googling it I’m now petrified that I’m going to get a blood clot and have a stroke or something (the dangers of google- ha!). It’s bad enough that I wouldn’t attempt to drive and just want to sit still really.I just feel worried to move it if you know what I mean...like my body is saying keep still.

It didn’t hurt as I was getting it done but it feels so stiff now. I texted my hairdresser and she suggested that I put some heat on it and to take a painkiller. She said that strokes a super rare etc. She was lovely and I don’t think she was at fault at all.

I am an otherwise fit and well 44 yr old with no other medical issues. Anyone else suffered the same? Please reassure me that you woke up fine the next day or healed quickly? Right now I feel like I want a neck brace and I don’t really ‘do’ ill if you know what I mean... I’m fairly tough and no hypochondriac.

(n.b not interested in anyone telling me to go sue my hairdresser lol....she’s lovely and I’d 100% chalk it up to ‘one of those things’)

p.p.s I know this isn’t the place for medical advice and if I feel really bad I will obvs dial 111/999 etc. XXX

If you feel otherwise well, a warm bath or shower, some ibuprofen and a heat pack should help.
If you have a headache, eyes hurt or feel otherwise ill, might might wise ringing 111.

I would suggest seeing how far you can move it, lying still and letting it go stiff will probably just be causing more pain. Take ibuprofen and use voltarol gel and/or a heat pack, hot bath etc. It’s very very likely to be a muscle strain so don’t panic. If it’s still bad in two days call 111.

I was initially exasperated by your response thinking “Well how the duck do you think I can ‘move it, lie still, and let it go stiff’??” 🤯😆 Then I re-read!!! ducks sake 🤦‍♀️

Hot and cold compresses alternate x
Thank you! I was reading about cold and hot compresses. I wasn’t sure which so gone for hot initially. It’s really nice. Not sure if it would have been nice anyway though if you know what I mean lol

I always get a sore neck when I get my hair done. Those sinks are bloody awful. I only ever get my hair washed in a salon if I'm having a colour on.

Agreed with alternating heat and cold. Pop some ibuprofen and go to bed x

I think you’re overreacting tbh 😂
Are you my husband? Nah you’re probably right..,,,.,it’s still bleeping stiff and sore but already easing off. Was convinced I was dying earlier tho but ‘duck you’ you unsympathetic (but accurate) witch all the same (😜😘)

Honestly, it’s proper scared me off. I’ve had my hair cut and coloured in salons my whole life and given birth to 3 kids but bugger me my neck fully felt like it was gonna clean drop off my head earlier today- now I’m like nah duck that salon hair washing experience ever again. 😕 I’m still sat up in bed with the crappy neck support I give my kids on long car journeys...which is a really sexy bedtime look.,
