It's taken a while, but finally it's time for the dumpster

Influencers only care about their mental health, they're the first to say any negative comments leads to suicide. But what about all the negative affects influencers have on society and the increased suicide of normal people due to social media?

Yes! I'm absolutely sick of seeing "be kind" plastered everywhere! I agree that some influencers are just using it as a defence for their rulebreaking, and it's becoming tiresome.

Also, influencers aside, I'm really really really sick to death of seeing my dickhead of a sister in law wear her "be kind" charity t-shirt when she's the nastiest, most judgemental twat I've ever met. The hypocrisy of some of the people preaching "be kind" is unreal!

I feel like as much as I FULLY agree with her, Olivia Atwood has found herself a very popular public opinion and used it to get herself exposure,
I must see her face daily in the Daily Mail going on rants against other influencers,
and I don’t believe deep down she gives a shit what they’re doing,
but being the voice of the people is great advertising for herself.

On the other hand, and that aside, at least she is speaking out, the manipulative bull shit that’s behind “be kind” needs to stop

I am so glad they are finally being called out on this! I said on a thread yesterday that when an influencer bangs the "be kind" drum it just means stop calling us out on our grabby, greedy, shady behaviour and nothing else.

I noticed when caroline died there were a lot of mealy mouthed, sanctimonious, self righteous celebs spouting #bekind yet most didn't have a clean sheet when it comes to being kind. Such hypocrites. Yes you mark wright!!!

I totally agree that ‘be kind’ has been conflated with ‘don’t pass any judgement on my decisions’ ... I can’t remember where I read it but there is a checklist that goes:
Does it need to be said?
Does it need to be said by me?
Does it need to be said now?

Sometimes the answer to all of those is yes (influencers deciding their holiday is more important than the risks of travelling unnecessarily in a pandemic) and often it’s no (telling a stranger on the internet that you don’t like their eyebrows) ...and I think that’s the difference between holding people accountable and being kind.

Interesting idea for a thread. I think the person who inspired the be kind movement should have been afforded privacy to deal with her issues and not have been tabloid fodder, there really wasn't any need for all of that to have been up for dissection in the public domain. But unfortunately it has been hijacked by influencers as a get out of jail free card which makes a mockery out of this sorry tale.

I work for a counselling service and have helped out on support lines during covid. There is a frightening trend of people using counselling services as tick box exercise to remove their own accountability for selfish and devious acts and this is stopping counselling services from helping people with genuine mental health issues. Cheating partners seeking counselling because they were caught out, blame mental health and not themselves for their actions. Big difference between being kind and being selfish

bandwagon jumping, we see it on here sure, Instagram accounts with TINY followings will find the most popular opinion and use it to try and grow their own following.
Then they get attention for “speaking out” because people don’t realise they’re being manipulated

I find it's the bitchiest hypocrites that use "Be Kind" on their social medias.

All of this has come about since Caroline Flack. It's very unfortunate that she died, especially the way she went, but let's not forget what she did to her ex boyfriend. If a man did that to a woman it would be "hang him". I see comments like that on social media all the time made to men when they commit crimes. The double standards are unfair and as much as Caroline didn't deserve to be in that dark a place, she should have faced up to her consequences and taken the punishment.

This year should have been the year to cancel these arseholes but it won’t happen now. When lockdown is over and the virus finally begins to filter out, they will still be filming unboxing videos, filming their holidays and press trips and receiving their freebies.

It makes me so angry that a lot of them have carried on as normal. Still seeing their friends and families, going abroad and getting their hair and nails and teeth done. The world has truly gone to shit, and apart from the people in this forum, no one else has really seen them for what they are.

I’m aware I’m generalising. Some of these influencers have stuck to the rules but SO MANY haven’t and have hidden behind the, now, bullshit “be kind” mantra.

It was a year of reflection for a lot of us, I’m sure. I realised how much I hated my job and started working for myself instead. I had a huge clear out and vowed not to buy as many clothes and make up as I had done in 2019. These guys? Barely any revelations coming from their feeds. They continued almost as normal with no repercussions for their actions.
How did that happen?
