Anyone else ever had issues at the school gates

I feel like I need to let this one out. I don't interact with any of the school mums except a hello here and there, I just drop my son off and off I go. Any way a car was waiting on the left so I waited for the cars on the right to come out of the school, then one of them waited back and I gestured her to come first.. My god, I read her mouth "what the duck, stupid bleeping witch", then as she drove past me she put her finger up and said "what the duck is the matter with you". I feel a bit shocked tbh, I didn't do anything wrong except wait for the cars on the right to come past as the obstruction was on my side, I have to wait. Going to feel awkward if I end up facing her again.

Well she sounds a charmer! You’ve done absolutely nothing wrong but be courteous!

That says everything about her and nothing about you. What a flipping overreaction! (Her I mean not you) something like this happened to me a few years ago in a traffic calmed residential area, I stopped to let another car through where the road narrowed and she started mouthing off at me. I was upset about it the whole rest of the day but certainly on reflection there is something wrong with people who react that way when someone is courteous to them. I get why it’s so upsetting but don’t let it bother you you were just being nice and that never deserves that sort of reaction.

Absolutely shocking isn't it I feel a bit weird about it tbh and dreading seeing her again! Definitely overreacted. Just no need for such vulgar language... I feel sorry for her kids if that's how she speaks to them!

You can't be the first person she's done that too and you probably won't be the last.

When my parents broke up when I was in infant school my mum caused loads of drama at the school gates for my dad making up and spreading all sorts to all the mums about him that people would give him looks and even come up to him asking about stuff that had been told to them. It certainly made an awkward atmosphere.

Why are all these people getting so irate at people letting them through? I was once called a bleeping witch walking home from school because I didn’t think to thank a driver who had stopped.
I do think stuff like this makes you feel a bit violated. You were just going about your day and someone intervened and made you feel rotten.

As others have said this says more about her than you. You did nothing wrong so don’t worry about having to see her again because it should be her who feels embarrassed. Who knows maybe she was having an off day and feels bad about it, or maybe she is just an unpleasant person. Either way it’s nothing to do with anything you did so hold your head high.

School gates can be tricky. At my kids school, the majority of the parents are fine but one or two can be a bit cliquey and intimidating. I’m not sure where these types of people come from but they seem to exist at almost every school.
