Any Hairdressers in the Building?!

Hi friends,

I hope you are all keeping safe and having a good Christmas!

I need advice on my hair... I’ve been box bleaching it for 15 or so years and have decided to finally stop. It never grows past a certain point and I am in an endless cycle of the top layer of hair breaking regardless of how often I cut it. Yes I know, I’m silly but it was convenient for me! Now, with us being stuck at home I thought it was the perfect time to let my roots grow out so I can see what my natural colour is like and go from there. Jokes on me! They look horrendous and I just know they’re going to get worse! I haven’t dyed my hair for 6 weeks and I wondered if anyone had any advice/recommendations on how to persevere bearing in mind hairdressers aren’t an option right now?

For reference, my hair ends are bleach blonde and my roots are an initial golden/brassy hue and then closer to the root a more dirty blonde!

TIA x

Me 🤭. A toner would be good at the moment , till it grows out !
Post a pic of your hair if you can 😃

Then you can have a balayage once you have more root !

Could you show us? I think a toner would be a good idea.
Just go with it too, it will be worth it.

I agree with a toner!
Take a look at hair colour wow highlighting pallets, they’re only temporary but take the edge off of the root to make you feel a little better without undoing your hard work! And treatments, lots of treatments 👍🏻

Hi gals!

Thanks for your replies so far! I will send a pic tomorrow as I’ve just sprayed my roots with dry shampoo so they look a little more presentable for NYE 😂 then you can tell me what the hell to do and what toner to get!

ps. Any recommendations on masks/treatments? How often would you say to do them also?

sorry I’m useless!

All depends on your budget but I personally recommend either milkshake - Yoghurt Mask or Kevin.Murphy - Young.again Masque
id go for once a week 15-20 minutes onto freshly shampooed towel dried hair. Best results are when used in conjunction with a professional shampoo.
I’m not sure on high street brands I don’t use them so wouldn’t want to give you a crap Recommendation! a fellow tattler maybe able to advise on that one if needs be 🙂

Garnier do an amazing banana mask that’s budget friendly, smells amazing and I find works so well after only a couple of uses...I’ll find a pic!

I’m no hairdresser but whatever you do - do not try and box dye your ends darker. I went through the same thing as you, thought I’d try and blend the ends in with my roots without doing my research.... big mistake 😂 . The first few months are the worse, once the roots get to around your ears it’s a lot better and doesn’t look like you’ve just forgotten to dye your hair. Now is an ideal time to do it because everyone’s hair looks crap anyway! Good luck!

Sorry to hijack the thread. My hairdresser dyed my quite long hair a dark plum colour September. I had around 2 inches of pretty grey roots. The colour took very strongly on the roots (hot roots maybe) so she put another colour on the roots to tone it down. Then within a month it had completely washed out? Why could this be please?

Have a look at the olaplex shampoo and conditioner, bit pricey but works wonders for on improving hair condition.

Bleaching will cause the breakage. I had to stop colouring mine as it was killing it. Olaplex is amazing, it helps the hair structure re bond. Heat is also another hair killer and sulphates don't help. OGX are sulphate and silicone free.

Either it was a semi , but red / mahogany etc will start to show though as it’s a strong pigment . Another toner needed 😄

Or didn’t put enough base colour in with the red/ mahogany colour as the grey will pick up all the tones.

thank you for this! I have decided to not use heated products on my hair for the foreseeable. I’ve had a look at olaplex and can see there’s a few different ones. Is there one you’d recommend in particular?

Thank you for this! I currently use the bedhead range - the red one called resurrection. Let me know if you think I’m wasting my money!

Thank you! I’ve not touched it dye wise since September. I will put a semi permanent colour on it like I always did before I think.
She did definitely use a permanent colour. I’ve never had a permanent colour on my hair ever before.

Just make sure if you still want a red , buy a natural colour and mix into it so the roots won’t be bright ! So whatever colour your darkness of hair is

I have around 5 inch roots now. Luckily my girl is amazing at balayage so it looks nice enough but I would love a fresh colour! I haven't had it done since July.

Good thing about balayage is you can leave it for ages 😄
