Annoying things your work colleagues do all the time? #9

Ask yourself how will you feel if you don't go for it. And write down what bothers you about applying. Sometimes writing stuff down with pen and paper really helps.

I fully get that it's scary, but do give it lots of thought. Best of luck. 🤞

Oh well in that case you're definitely not going to be tit at it, you're already doing it! Similar thing happened to me, but without people managing, and when I finally had the title it gave me a big confidence boost. Doing the work without the title is the tit part. When it's official it feels like you can properly own your expertise. Go for it!

Ahh thank you. I’ve already been “stepped up” into the role for a while now on and off to cover long absences. It’s a management role, but it just feels like a very “final” decision if I take it permanently and there’s no way back if I actually end up being tit at it. I know I’m holding myself back. It’s just scary 😂
Then you already know the job. Do it! Good luck!

Those anonymous surveys that companies send out. The surveys that aren’t actually anonymous. The surveys were we all rate our job satisfaction, how we rate our direct manager, what the company is getting right & wrong etc…

The results are in & my team scored rated me very high in terms of “does my direct manager value the importance of being supported in terms of mental health & well-being?” I was praised (via email) for taking the time to regularly check-in on my team. In fact, out of 2000 managers in the same role within the company worldwide, I scored in the top percentile..

How do they reward me? They add to my workload & basically tell me I have to train other managers on how to implement mental health well-being resources within their teams.

Infuriates me how if you do a great job at the company, they just add to your workload rather than giving you a bonus or taking the time to really thank you 😡

I used to get asked to chase up X Y and Z on my team as they’d not completed the anonymous survey 😂 clearly SO private and SO anonymous.

We had one of those surveys come about recently, and they wanted to know directorate, department and then team and sub-team so it hardly made it anonymous because in my team it would be one of 4 people!

See I've stopped doing them. We have to log in with our work email no way is it anonymous. I'm not blowing smoke up their arses

I used to work for a major online retailer (well, THE major online retailer) and they told us the same BS about the surveys being anonymous. After I got promoted to management I sat in on the meetings where they discussed why this or that employee answered a certain way, and got on those peoples' managers to get them to give the answers they wanted. I was both shocked and not shocked that they'd so blatantly lie to the people who got their main guy to be a billionaire.

I hate management roles. I hate looking after other people. I’d rather just get paid my wage and care about myself only 🤣

Customer service rep who wants me to take over some of the duties of actually servicing THEIR customers because I guess they don't want to?
Kick down some of that salary, which is tens of thousands higher than mine, if I am going to have to do a portion of their work.

So I went for the promotion. Was knocked back, not even offered an interview. For a job I’ve already been doing. Trying not to rage cry right now because wtf

I'm sorry. That has to be super frustrating.
A friend of mine worked where I used to work, in the same department (we became friends later on and didn't work the same shift). She had been "temporarily" working in the department until approval was given to open up the position for a direct hire. When it finally did and she applied, she too was passed over. To make it worse, the manager required her to train the person they'd hired. She asked "if I'm good enough to train the person you hired, why wasn't I good enough to hire?" I was furious on her behalf.

I'm so sorry @EvilJigglypuff. Time for some tough conversations - when you feel up to them - as to why you're deemed good enough to carry out the role, but not even given an interview for it when there's an opportunity.

I'm sorry that must be so disappointing and demoralising for you. Are you able to get feedback? If you are currently doing the job it would be interesting to understand their reasons for not offering you an interview

I'm so sorry, that's crap that you didn't even get offered an interview. I would definitely be asking for some feedback.

I worked with someone in a similar situation. They weren't actually outright asked to train the person but were somehow expected to share all their expertise with the new hire.

Thanks everyone. I did receive some feedback, some of which was around my CV which to be honest I find ridiculous given they know me, but whatever, I can work on that. It’s “not the right time” apparently and I need some more career development. Everyone I’ve spoken to has been speechless, I feel so disrespected and used. I’m not on LinkedIn as it makes me cringe, but perhaps it’s time to sign up

I know I've complained about some of my coworkers, but I actually really like my job. I got this job because a recruiter found my resume on Indeed and thought I could be a fit. I'm not sure where you're located but I recommend Indeed.
