but what irritates me as they have known about this for ages! Why hasn’t the TL “noticed” it before? He’s been offline for 2 hours some afternoons, yet if me and another girl on my team are logged on 1 minute late, we get “hello hello??” Messages on teams. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, they are checking up on the wrong people.
From what I saw, the TL hadn’t hovered over how long he was actually “away” when she took the snapshot, so it could have only been a few mins, which isn’t worth screenshotting.

Especially if it's urgent. Emails can be easily ignored. Phone calls can be much more effective, if you can get hold of the right person.

You can't read tone in an email either, so much easier to call I think

I think it might be an AI thing, certainly judging by the syntax of the rest of the emails. It's not something humans would say.

Nah, it's angry pre-boomer speak. Used to deal with shit like that all the time in the 1990s. Mostly from men in their 60s but a fair number of women enraged that I'd turned down their insurance claim for forty grand's worth of jewellery they put into hold luggage expecting it to still be there once it reached their cruise departure point. For a Silent Generation, they had a fuckton to say at people they saw as inferior to them.

In a previous workplace the team was spread across different locations. The manager was a micro-manager. He could have just looked in people's calendars to see where they were every day... But instead he made us do a roll-call, like schoolkids.

Every morning the teams chat was like this (and therefore he knew when everyone had logged in):
Morning, I'm wfh
Hi, I'm in the Reading office today
I'm visiting a supplier in York

And on and on - endless notifications first thing in the morning. Was very annoying if you were sharing your screen at 9am and they'd all pop up in the corner.

This reminds me of my first office job, a woman on a temporary contract was asked to train me, someone who had been offered the same job on a permanent contract, and would be replacing her. She was so kind to me and showed me the ropes, it wasn’t until afterwards I found out the situation and was mortified. But it must’ve been such a slap in the face being asked to train someone because you know the job so well but not valued enough to be retained by the company or rewarded

Had she applied for the permanent contract and been unsuccessful?
If so, that is indeed harsh of the management to expect her to train you in those circumstances!
Although there's nowt as quare as folk and nothing surprises me in a workplace!
I was in a situation once when I was working for a large workplace, with loads of departments, whereby my one year contract ended and I didn't want to renew it because the office was cliquey and I'd never fitted in, it was kind of mutual because the manager didn't like me and she was probably relieved that I was lucky enough to find another job in another department.
Anyway, I had a one week handover with my replacement, and she was very nice and I was happy to be leaving so I was very happy to be showing her the job.
One of my duties was to file staff contracts and lo and behold I had to file hers and spotted that her starting salary was way more than what I was earning
Obviously, it wasn't her fault and I didn't let it affect how I treated her but I really did feel I'd been taken for a fool by the manager and I did resent having to train the new person and she literally sitting there being paid more than me
I was so glad to get outta there, and luckily the department I moved to was much nicer but I've never forgotten how I felt that last week.

Yes, I remember one of my first jobs after uni. I was low paid and skint all the time. A manager pressured me to put money towards something which was then cancelled so the manager announced he was donating the money to charity. I asked for my contribution back and he was really shitty with me.

We use Teams at work and my manager has started constantly setting her status as ‘offline’ so it looks like she’s not at work but is. I think she’s doing it to work uninterrupted but we work from home no one can physically see she’s at work and people keep coming to me with questions for her as they think she’s off. It’s doing my head in and also strikes me as being full of self importance

I find leading our team meetings so frustrating, no one engages and I feel like I’m just talking at them, which is what they’ve complained that our boss does (I have to step in for him in his absence which is why I’m leading currently). Morale is very low at my company at the moment and I get it, but surely if you hate just being talked at then you’d engage when I ask you questions?

I noticed my supervisor has a tick where if she says something really snarky/self important, she'll do a deep sniff/inhale and now I can't unhear it. She does it multiple times an hour, it's constant.

Why can no one remember anything? I send round important updates that affect the work we do by email. I have a folder that I put them all in so I can go back to them. Time will pass and people start asking questions as if I never sent an update. If I can remember this stuff and store it away for those times where I can’t quite remember, why can’t anyone else? Obviously no one can remember everything but it’s maddening when people claim they’re not communicated with properly, when actually they either don’t read my updates or don’t take in any of the information I give them.

In my work they always ask what's wrong and then it'll get repeated to the whole team (with a guess of when the person will be back)!

Like 'Dan's off today cos he hurt his leg playing football at the weekend, so he might be off the rest of the week depending on what the x ray shows'

Or 'Sarah's sister died suddenly of a heart attack so I expect she'll be off for a few weeks'.

Colleagues absolutely do not need that level of detail about why someone is off!

Just tell them you have D&V - no other details are necessary! Nosy gits

I do the same, I have allergies so easier to justify, I guess, but I have my own coffee, which I bring in my own flask so I don't have to use the manky limescale encrusted kettle. I've seen how the milk in the fridge gets used by the thieving staff from second floor who don't contribute the the milk kitty. I also just bring my chilled lunch in a little insulated lunch bag that sits under my desk because the fridge STINKS as people leave tupperwares in there for days. Also the communal catering sized 1000 bag of teabags gets left wide open to the air all day long, and the coffee jars have water from wet spoons all down the inside where the coffee has disolved and then crusted. Kim and Aggie would have a field day on the communal yellow dish sponge. I don't clean my mug at work, it comes home in my lunch bag every day. I just...CAN'T deal with the communal sponge. Bleugh.

Lazy co worker was back in the office on Thursday last week after being on leave. He didn’t know the TL was on A/L Thursday and Friday. He kept asking if she was definitely off on the Friday (when we wfh).
Comes to Friday and he logs on after 9am when it’s meant to be 8am. Spends most of the day away rather than online. It was his birthday, so he was probably fucking about all day knowing he can get away with it. Why not just book it off?
Today it’s limited staff in the office and the TL is out all day. He’s spent all day so far on his phone or wandering about chatting to people. If someone walks by him, he puts his phone down or tilts it away from them.
Really beginning to lose my patience. He’s on more money than me, yet I seem to have more workload. Make it make sense. I’m eating my lunch in silence fuming. I’ve not heard him type on his keyboard once. Arghh.

I work with someone like this. Winds me up so much

I started a new job in November last year after my job was at risk and I’m really struggling with it. We all hot desk and in the whole time I’ve been there I’ve never sat with my team only the odd one person occasionally. Two of the team only come into the office for 4 hours once a week and are joined at the hip so never sat with them so learning has been a challenge to say the least. I feel oddly lonely in this role having had a set desk in my last job and it’s also incredibly boring so I don’t feel I’m using my skills at all.
My manager asked if I wanted to move to a new team as they’re short but my current team is also short so it’s robbing Peter to pay Paul really and that role is even worse! I declined which I don’t think she was overly happy about by if I’d have gone it makes my last 7 months in the role an absolute waster of time. I’m trying to get out but had an interview and they were super suspicious about why I was trying to leave so soon so may have to sit this bullshit out for another 6 months so it doesn’t look so bad.

Nah. I don’t think it’s that. My TL is worried that he could become really nasty, but if you hear his stories he tells, he’s definitely got napoleon syndrome (he’s about 5’4”). He’s always telling stories about how he’s kicking off at people and we all look at each other like, that never happened. There’s definitely a few arms and legs attached to his stories.
On Tuesday, our line manager was in our office and he passed the junction of where Lazy co worker would come off and drive to work and he said it only took him 13 minutes to get here. It was 8.57am and he was asking where lazy was (a bit annoyed). When lazy arrived, the line manager took him into a room and had a word with him. As Lazy was coming out of the room with the LM, I heard him say he would take another route to work .
It was just me and lazy for the last hour yesterday in the office and he was ranting about the line manager saying how he doesn’t actually know what he does etc etc he said that he had had a word with him and I said “oh yeah, what was that about?” Even though I actually knew why and the story that lazy told me versus what I actually think happened are not the same version. He said he told the LM that he “doesn’t subscribe to start times” the manager has told him he needs to be in five minutes before 9am or he will go to HR. Lazy said to him, what will HR do? And apparently the LM couldn’t think of an answer. He asked if they were going to start paying him for an 8.55 start I wish I could call his bluff because the day after he got pulled into the room, the Wednesday, we heard him running down the corridor at 8.50am!! he never arrives that early, but the LM was in our office all this week, so make of that what you will!

Quoting myself. I’m godsmacked. I found out that Lazy coworker did actually say the our line manager that he doesn’t subscribe to start times. How has he still got a job!!
