I don't understand what you mean. That Andrew's arrest was perfectly timed to lose the Greens votes, because Labour would prefer a Reform win? Who would be behind this scheme?

Well the police are nominally independent but are well known to be susceptible to political influence and the Green Party has broadly anti-police policies in line with the ‘defund the police’ movement.

I doubt Andrew’s arrest is because of anything to do with Gorton and Denton, but if it was happening anyway, I can certainly see how the timing of the arrest could have been made as convenient as possible to prevent the victory of an anti-police party in a by-election. They would have 5 MPs which would give them extra privileges such as public money for campaigning and seats on Select Committees. Plus it would be seen as possibly heralding a wider swing away from Labour and towards the Greens in the middle-class vote. IMO it’s the sort of thing the police would note, it wouldn’t be the justification or cause of the arrest, but they’d be aware the timing couldn’t do any harm in terms of damaging the chances of an anti-police party getting a significant foothold in parliamentary politics.

The payoff funded by the late Queen says it all. Virginia was considered as unreliable and unstable and she undoubtedly had mental health issues which coloured judgement.

I agree and think the RF will continue to protect him in private whilst publicly giving the impression that he has been ostracised. The Monarchy must survive these scandals and that takes precedence. The PR machine will offer up meaningless statements to fend off awkward questions.

Much as it’s nice to weave together elements to make a story, it could also just be coincidence that he was arrested whilst there’s a by election. And the press are allegedly free to report on whatever is happening; nothing stopping the Tory side saying less about Andy, and more about Mandy.

The Tories aren’t really a factor in G&D. But even if they were, you can make as much noise as you want about someone, if the noise doesn’t gain traction into a story it’s pointless. And at the moment it won’t because of Andrew.

Reform are the other big player in G&D and judging by opinion polling it’s not in their interests to make noise about Mandy. It was having very little impact on their vote share but was losing them the advantage of the left-wing vote being split between Labour and the Greens as it was driving more voters to the Greens and making them a possible for the win rather than Reform. Andrew being arrested works to the advantage of politicians all round, except the Green Party who would have benefited from the week after his arrest being dominated by Mandy, youth unemployment and bad economic news.
